Fears & the NBA Draft Projections

So for the people screaming Fears was no taller than 6'1"... looks like he was closer to the 6'4" (with shoes) which OU listed him at than he was to 6'1".

Also looks like he continues to put on some muscle, which you can tell from his workout videos.

yep good measurement for him ..

as a reminder Blake at the combine .. (who was much older )

6'8.5 bare foot 6'10 in shoes 1.5 inch difference (they used to measure with and without shoes)

Fears is up 1 inch in less then a year ... so he is also likely still growing
Yeah, IIRC, he measured 6'1" during the summer circuit last year. And 165-170 lbs.

Still probably 2nd-3rd PG picked behind Harper and Edgecombe, but with his age and those measurements, he now gives an NBA scout/exec justification for a top 10 pick.

Especially with how well he runs the pick and roll. As good as any 18 year old I can remember seeing. That and three point shooting is the NBA game today.

I’ll be shocked if he is available past 7. We’ll see how the lottery falls tonight

Yep, agreed. All on where the ping pong balls go. But the way I see it is Flagg, Harper, Bailey, probably Tre Johnson, and maybe Edgecombe going ahead. Then Jeremiah, depending on the team. Maybe Murray-Boyles from SC or the other two Duke guys if certain teams move into or around the top 10. But no way do I see him going past 10.

So if Fears is probably going anywhere from 3-10

Philly
Charlotte
Utah
Washington
New Orleans
Brooklyn
Toronto
Houston

If he falls below that it's
Portland
Chicago
Atlanta
San Antonio
OKC

Hornets if they trade melo
Or Utah make most sense to me

But couldn’t be a taco early

Hollinger has Fears at number 5 overall.

“The numbers say that we shouldn’t get out over our skis on Fears; he was massively turnover-prone, shot poorly from 3, missed open teammates, struggled on defense and, based on my in-person eye test, is unlikely to measure 6-4.

But Fears’ best plays are just too good to ignore. He’s a slash-and-burn point-of-attack ballhandler who can break down defense with his handle and execute difficult finishes at the cup. It helps that the draft drops off here in quality, making it easier to take a shot on stardom even if the mid-case scenario is probably more like Jordan Clarkson.

Fears played more as a volume scorer in his lone season, shooting just 44.7 percent on 2s in SEC play, but he also drew fouls at a prodigious rate. His 85.1 percent mark from the line also makes it easier to buy that his 28.4 percent shooting from 3 might eventually level out at something close to respectable. Fears’ stroke needs tightening – bring the elbow in, get more air under it, etc. – but he also took a lot of difficult 3s that dragged on the percentage. Nonetheless, if opponents can just go under screens against him, that’s going to hurt his downhill attacking game.

Defensively, Fears is skinny and needs to compete more, but he also has good hands and, in his best iso clips, showed lively feet. He’ll be hunted early in his career, but it’s not a disaster.”

good measurements

I just wonder what his vertical is.

He will obviously have to play on the perimeter at whatever pro level he ends up at. I think that’s why his shot and handle will really hold him back. If he were a couple inches taller, those wouldn’t be quite as important, but 6-6 is essentially a two guard at the pro level.

6'6 1/4 without shoes is over 6'7 on an NBA roster ... .. but yeah that makes him a wing .. (which i think is why he leaned up so much this year he knew he needs to be able to guard on the outside to have any shot at the league ) ..

3 and D is his only path ..
