Fears & the NBA Draft Projections

I don’t think it’s a sign of bias that he isn’t as high on a player as some. Everyone has different opinions. And even some of the mocks that are very favorable for Fears acknowledge that there is a very wide range of views about him among NBA teams.

A guy with a slight frame who has never shot it well and who is turnover prone is naturally going to be questioned. I don’t think anything he said here is unfair.
he is also a reporter that thinks win losses for fears as a 15 year old is a relevant thing and he knows so much about the nba that he thinks that Ant Edwards doesn't handle/ initiate the offense very much in minnesota ..

he is a much much much better shooter then westbrook

college FT shooting is the BEST indicator of nba 3 point shooting (as long as your form is good )
i can get behind saying he is a better shooter than westbrook.

But much much much? That is really pushing it

westbrook shot 68.5% on FT in college
ok. and he shot quite a bit better from 3 than fears in college.
He also shot over 80% from FT line his first 9 years in the NBA

If you want to say Fears is a better shooter than Russ fine.
But there isn't any evidence to support saying he is much much much better

russ also doesn't and never has had a great looking shooting stroke ..

i bet Fears ends up as an above 35% NBA 3 point shooter

holllinger is a professional he is not a reporter he has worked in NBA front offices ..
But you keep ignoring my broader point. Many people have said the same things about Fears. He is viewed as somewhat boom or bust by teams. Unless you think every single reporter is making that up, I’m not sure why you are so fixated on this one guy.

As for the Westbrook comparison, Russ is one of the best athletes to ever play PG. Fears is a good athlete. He isn’t on that level, and that’s no knock on Fears.

I’m honestly not looking to start an argument. I hope Fears goes as high as possible and has a great career. I just don’t think that someone is biased simply because they don’t love a player as much as some others do.

I agree with your last point

but with shaw specifically he is just doubling down on a bad earlier reporting .. that the NBA at large didn't think fears was ready and he should go back to school and he had no chance at the lottery ..

and as for Russ Fears and Russ have the EXACT same Max vert at the NBA combine 36.5 .. Fears had a HIGHER standing Vert 32.05 to 30

also 3/4 court sprint Fears was FASTER then Russ 3.05 - 3.08

Fears is taller at time of combine ..

so he is taller can jump higher and is faster .... ???

not on that level?? (and yes i know russ became a better and better athlete)

Great points and comparison.

I think Jeremiah plays so smoothly and under control, unlike the explosiveness and bat-out-of-hell style Westbrook displayed in his early years. They overlook his athleticism and don't feel he is as athletic as other players. They see the baby-face and assume he's not as developed athletically.

But all I know is he gets to the rim at will. He beats his defender with a deceptively good first step. Then, at times, he throws a tomahawk dunk down on a drive, and you say, "Where the heck did that come from?!?"

And he's only 18.

I guess here is how I boil it down, and maybe this is too simple -- but do you envision any point in Fears' career where he will be regularly attacking the rim and throwing down punishing dunks on opponents, including bigs? Because that is who Russ was at his peak.

It would be hard to suggest anyone would play quite the way Westbrook plays. But it's worth noting that Westbrook had two years of experience on Fears when he went to the draft.

i don't know maybe .... but what is a fact is that Fears at 18 is taller faster and can jump higher then Russ could at 19 ..

and Fears likely is still growing and will get much much stronger .. so he will improve his jump and speed in the next year ..
