The big thing for me is, if his coaching in the last 4 years led us to believe that us losing close games this year was a fluke, I would get it and defend him. If we were in the tournament 3 out of the last 4 years and had at least 2 winning seasons in conference. I would have no issues. If he had retained players and showed any ability to develop players at all, I would be giving him time for sure.

But it is the same year after year. No offensive identity, squandering leads, mind-numbing substitution patters, lack of any accountability on the glass and defensive end.

He may be a nice guy, but he sucks as a head basketball coach.

I hope we hire a solid up and comer with a proper basketball GM.

The GM point is a good one. Not having one has been a huge detriment, since it’s clear Moser has absolutely no idea how to build a roster. He’s clueless on what type of player it takes to win at this level. Whoever we hire as coach, it would show a meaningful commitment to the program if they also hire a GM.

I was thinking more about his substitution patterns last night. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a coach with less of a plan when it comes to his approach. One game he only plays two guys off the bench. The next, five bench guys play before halftime. One game a guy is your first man off the bench. The next, he barely sees the floor. It’s just another way he shows how clueless he is.

He did it to explain why its not his fault and to avoid accountability. Hes had an extremely long runway in a sport that fires coaches routinely after 2 year spells (which we could have done for little to no $ - thanks Joe Castiglione)

I'd like to actually listen to the interview before drawing any conclusions on it.
Sometimes posters like to stretch what is said to fit the narrative they want.

To your point about lack of a plan or substitution patterns, I think it was at about the 13-14 minute mark in the first half, I commented to my wife that Kai Rogers was getting up to go to the scorers table to check in- first time in a few games. No dead ball before the under 12 TO, and when they come back to the floor, Mo is checking back in instead. Didn't make any sense, and that is not the only time or player even a casual observer can make the comment. Or not playing guys at all, or enough, like Soares, Marvin Johnson, and now Kuol. It just doesn't make any sense.

One of the best things about LK, and others, was that you KNEW who was going to be on the floor and when. Buddy coming out 1-2 minutes ahead of a media TO. Who's coming off the bench, who is in at crunch time, etc. True with Kelvin and Billy, too. True with most every good coach.

As @TEvans4Three, it would be different if this year were an anomaly on his "issues" we see on the court. But it's a 5 year pattern.

I wouldn't bet on a GM. I think they will defer to the HC. 15 players is a lot less than 85 or whatever in football

Sure, if we’re not serious about basketball success. If we are serious, we need a GM and a few analysts to assist with the numerous tasks that the coaching staff needs help doing. Identifying the best players in the portal and HS to recruit. Recruiting donor support for the program. We clearly need help teaching fundamentals and understanding game scenarios. Refining technique and sharpening skills. If we had a few more hands helping, it would pay dividends. The GM could manage roster construction and recruiting as well as oversee analyst to help coaches and connecting with donors to raise money. The head coach can’t do it all.

It doesn’t have to be as extensive as the football program but the coaching staff needs more help or we will continue to fall behind.

Yea that oversimplifies it. I have heard plenty of discussion about what the good programs do and it is a full time job. During the season, the GM spends most of his time watching video of pretty much every team/player in the country to prepare for the upcoming portal season. A head coach can't do that. They have to get their team ready to play games and prep for practice. Coaches basically know the players in their league and maybe the guys on the noncon schedule. That leave about 4,000 players they have never seen.

Basketball is no longer amateurs fighting for their alma mater.

It is 100% a business, you need to build a good product on the floor and maximize your return on your investment.

We need a GM. We need someone to evaluate portal player value, contact agents midseason, and find diamonds with our limited budget to moneyball success.
If we don't we are not serious about basketball.
