Fire Porter Moser

oswho wasn't doing much, NIL-wise, in football until they hired their new guy, then donors stepped up. I get that it's football in the state of Oklahoma, so it's not apples to apples, but if the new AD is in on the right guy, hopefully some donors can be convinced to step up and assure the AD and the coach he's trying to hire a better NIL situation.

Regardless of what some may think of Porters coaching ability he has been hamstrung on NIL. His first year was less than $25,000 and he is still towards the bottom of the SEC on Nil. I wonder if he would have the bigs we needed with an extra 3-4 Million. Do we hire a great coach with the same Nil and expect great success? College hoops is a semi pro league now and money talks. Who ever we hire we need to provide Nil in the top half of the SEC to compete. Until football is competitive at a top player in the SEC I expect the money will stay in football and success will be limited in basketball.

If we don't make the Dance this year (highly likely right now), I doubt anyone will object to Moser getting the axe. What I am worried about is who will want the job of a school which spends less NIL money than just about every school in the conference while having the worst fan base in the conference. It's not going to be an easy sell in spite of OU being a borderline top-25 all-time basketball program based on results.

I think I heard women's basketball is having it's first sellout since 2009. You really just have to win and the fanbase isn't so bad. I have little doubt a gem of a hire could ressurect this program. Most hires aren't gems, though. We made that type of hire twice in a row, but it's been over 30 years now.

I grew up in the Tubbs/Sampson era, and was really proud of our program. It's been 20 years since that era ended, and it's wild to consider that yearning for that era is only a few years from Nebraska and Osborne.

With recruiting this past year, it was clear that our NIL was cranked up.

He has good players this year. Team is talented, but like all years they show up unmotivated a handful of times and all the returning players stay the same or worse.

Some of the same people who said “Moser killed it in the portal. This is his most talented team!” are now saying “You shouldn’t blame Moser too much, he’s hamstrung by our low NIL.”

Outside of year 2, his 19 and 20 win seasons during the other 3 were pretty much status quo for the post-Sampson era. We've outperformed that a couple times with generational talents like Blake and Buddy, but we've otherwise had to accept that 20 wins is a success instead of a foregone conclusion like it was for Sampson.

But yeah, unless this year gets turned around, it has to be the end. We got our targets in the portal. I will say that every time Porter has seemed to turn a corner, good or bad, the tendency has been to suddenly shift the other direction. I fully expect to hit a 3 or 4 game winning streak soon, only to follow it up with an equal or worse losing streak once we get our hopes up.

I would say not if they have legit Power Conference options…unless we go crazy with the contract. Sure, if it’s a matter of going to coach at OU or coaching at Drake or Texas State…yes, OU would be a big step up and almost certainly more appealing. But I would be very surprised if OU is able to win a bidding war on a hot candidate with multiple options. This doesn’t mean they couldn’t land a gem by the way.
Well the reality is that Moser was a hot name when he took the job, even though we all now realize that was silly. I guess the question is whether the terrible job he has done has devalued the job so much that we would struggle to snag someone with several options. But like you say, plenty of coaches who aren’t big names end up doing great when they get a chance.

I am now in the position talked about on here many times... unfortunately... that I hate. Hoping we lose to get his *** out of here. If we were to like, beat Alabama by 30 like we did a couple of years ago, and as we saw it was fool's gold. If that actually gives the pea brains in our admin fodder to keep him around another year? Roll Tide. Again, I hate being in this position. But I love OU basketball and want OU basketball excellence. Heck, i'd accept a .500 conference record right about now. Get his *** out of here by whatever means possible!

Today was a game that would sting if we were playing well and had hope that Moser could get his **** together. But it’s a moldy cherry on top of a 26-49 conference record.

Please get this guy out of here. We all knew we would lose when they went up 1 late because we don’t win those games under Moser.

Why can't OU just fire him and make an assistant interim while they look for someone? I hate having to root against us, especially when there's no guarantee they'll do anything. They're not doing anything...Year 5. Absurd. It's a horrible feeling rooting against him so he'll get fired but still feeling crushed we lost. I wish someone could circumvent apathetic Joe C. and take care of business. This is unreal..
