Fire Porter Moser

I don't care who it is just as long as Moser is gone. I have never been this low on any team in our athletic program. I think eight losses in a row has got to be a record for the school as well. These are not records any coach at this University should have, regardless of sport. This is the most depressing season, mainly because this was the most optimism I had in about 5 years going into a season, but these transfers just can't play well together and it's got to be Moser...

Does anyone have a link to the post game presser? I'd be interested in what his excuses were today...

10 straight is the record. Happened 62 years ago.

10 is the record.. which hell surpass

I’m okay with taking that chance. If a coach is attractive to be lured to a bigger, blue-chip program after success here, it means that coach has elevated our program to much greater heights than it is now. And at that point should be attractive to plenty other candidates.

A win-win and worth the risk. Much better off than we are now.

OU must move on from Moser. I trust they will by end of this season.

I do have my doubts that ou can retain a coveted coach long term, however. Of course that shouldn’t stop the admin from trying to find/retain such a coach.

I really feel bad for Porter. I think he’s maybe a jerk but has tried pretty hard to make this work.
He's actually a good guy. Great family guy and positive outside of work. Hate that it didn't work because he's a great representative of the program. But he's not a good enough basketball coach to consistently lead a power conference team to the tournament. Doesn't coach the small things well enough, doesn't hold players accountable, doesn't know how to build / develop players throughout the year / their career, etc. Caught lightning in a bottle twice.

I heard in the postgame where he was talking about along quick shots late in the game without “making the other team guard us.” Brown does seem to do that a lot. But he clearly doesn’t hold Brown accountable.

If only there was a guy getting paid millions of dollars to make sure that doesn’t happen.

I think Moser is a good dude. He tries and obviously wants to win. My evaluation of him is that his teams do not improve. Every year they look exactly the same on Nov 10 and March 1. That is the sign of a mediocre to bad coach. Its time to move on.

Bob Richey from Furman wouldn’t be a bad hire. He has had some good seasons at furman and is still young at 43.

Was reading that he has cultivated friendships with both Dabo Swinney and Shane Beamer in an attempt to position himself for either Clemson or South Carolina when they come open. South Carolina will probably make a change and swallow a $12M buyout this year, but they appear to be looking elsewhere.

Furman is not an easy place to win.

Not a guy that will win the press conference at OU (very few will), but he'll win somewhere bigger than Furman.

Does anyone think… we’ll get another 1 and done? Not that I love that but the top 5 fr performers for the weekend all played on ranked teams.

Yeah, this is my take on PM and the situation as well.

My impression is he's a great guy to represent your program. Obviously, he has a tremendous amount of positive energy in the public eye/media, and he's been able to sell the program pretty well to HS recruits and their families, as well as transfers where we have a fighting chance in dollars. In my brief moments of small interactions with him during his tenure, he's been really cool to meet, and that energy gets one excited about OU hoops. Capel was a douchebag, and Kelvin had his arrogant moments, but PM has been cool. I've wanted it to work for him, and as a HUGE hoops fan, wanted it to work for OU.

However, being a great or even good basketball coach is so much more than being positive and likable. And in those areas, as @pnkranger mentioned and others, it hasn't worked, and he hasn't done the job. The admin and Joe C probably gave him more time than he deserved because of the enormous challenges any coach faces right now at OU, outside of their ability as a coach. But he has not earned nor should be given any more leniency or grace. Regardless of the other issues that need to be fixed. The record and on-court resume speaks for itself, and even without studying things at a micro level, the macro level of one tourney in 5 years is not acceptable.

Wanted it to work, but it hasn't. Time for Denny, Stephenson, and Harroz to be planning for Monday, March 16th, when we formally turn the page from the Porter Moser era.
