But he has not earned nor should be given any more leniency or grace. Regardless of the other issues that need to be fixed. The record and on-court resume speaks for itself, and even without studying things at a micro level, the macro level of one tourney in 5 years is not acceptable.

Wanted it to work, but it hasn't. Time for Denny, Stephenson, and Harroz to be planning for Monday, March 16th, when we formally turn the page from the Porter Moser era.

Probably Wednesday, March 11 after the first round loss in the SEC tournament, but yes. This is true.
 
I just don’t understand the frequent posts about whether he is a good person or family man. First, unless you know the man well, you don’t know. Second, it’s totally irrelevant to this discussion. Somebody shouldn’t get a longer leash to continue doing a terrible job because they aren’t an a-hole in their personal life.

Yes, he would. But, as a Jayhawk, would he take the OU job even if we didn't have our issues?

I read that he's going to bring his sons on as assistants. Plus, UMKC is going to up their NIL (that's relative). Any success he has is more than what they've had before.

Less stressful than the grind of coaching in the SEC.

Because that is the way the world works- in business, in sports, in relationships, etc.

Likeable people who make friends, are positive, enthusiastic, and give effort will always be given the benefit of the doubt over an arsehole who is domineering and abrasive.

Right or wrong when it comes to judging performance, it is simply the way humans interact in life and on the job.

Off the top of my head: if Brian Kelly were a nice guy, he'd still be the football coach at LSU. Many more examples of this.

If Porter were a jerk in the office and to donors, he'd be gone now.

Couple things. OU isn’t a rival of KU in basketball. Let’s not flatter ourselves. Second, the fact that he is taking a job at one of the worst programs in the country should tell you that he isn’t exactly a hot name in the coaching world. He is about to turn 61. He likely knew he wasn’t going to get a job in a power conference so he decided to take this kind of job. I wouldn’t want OU to hire an older coach who has no experience dealing with the portal or NIL. He is better than Moser but that is a low bar. He also is kind of a tool.

Well, he constantly complains about lack of NIL and fan support. Not sure how exactly that is considered the sign of a guy who is great at winning over the fan base.

kind of a tool is a massive understatement.
i would quit watching ou basketball if someone was dumb enough to higher turgeon the squawk

No question turgeon is a better coach than moser. That’s a low bar. I’m not a fan of turgeon tho. What happened at Maryland? Did he get fired? Or just quit? Not sure. And he’s a Jayhawk and a giant douche.

Surely there’s a better option.

One minor correction. When Turgeon was playing at Kansas, OU was a FIERCE rival. The 1980s belonged to three schools in the conference: OU, Kansas and Missouri...and it was Kansas who won the least number of Big 8 titles that decade. OU won at least three games at the Phog that decade (top of my head 1984, 1988 and 1989) while winning most of the games at Lloyd Noble. That said, there were rumors Turgeon was interested in the OU job when Lon retired (to stay ahead of the firing curve while at Maryland), but Joe C was not interested. Since Joe C was a Maryland alum, I have no doubt the two talked. In my honest opinion, OU needs to set their sights a little higher.
 
KSU is going to be interesting to watch. Tang is really digging his own grave with some of his comments to the media. And unlike OU, their writers have called him on it. Unlike Moser, he managed to have one great season before crapping the bed. They are an interesting school because they have had some good stretches but also lots of bad years. And they will obviously always be little brother to KU.
 
MBB has become what wrestling and baseball have been much of the past 30 years. Virtually irrelevant in the national landscape. All 3 have had occasional moments of excellence, but not often sustained.

The buyout is just under $17M. It goes down if the AD is no longer employed there.

Supposedly they're lining up the money, but that's a lot of cash.
 
The big thing for me is, if his coaching in the last 4 years led us to believe that us losing close games this year was a fluke, I would get it and defend him. If we were in the tournament 3 out of the last 4 years and had at least 2 winning seasons in conference. I would have no issues. If he had retained players and showed any ability to develop players at all, I would be giving him time for sure.

But it is the same year after year. No offensive identity, squandering leads, mind-numbing substitution patters, lack of any accountability on the glass and defensive end.

He may be a nice guy, but he sucks as a head basketball coach.

I hope we hire a solid up and comer with a proper basketball GM.
