Yeah, this is my take on PM and the situation as well.
My impression is he's a great guy to represent your program. Obviously, he has a tremendous amount of positive energy in the public eye/media, and he's been able to sell the program pretty well to HS recruits and their families, as well as transfers where we have a fighting chance in dollars. In my brief moments of small interactions with him during his tenure, he's been really cool to meet, and that energy gets one excited about OU hoops. Capel was a douchebag, and Kelvin had his arrogant moments, but PM has been cool. I've wanted it to work for him, and as a HUGE hoops fan, wanted it to work for OU.
However, being a great or even good basketball coach is so much more than being positive and likable. And in those areas, as
@pnkranger mentioned and others, it hasn't worked, and he hasn't done the job. The admin and Joe C probably gave him more time than he deserved because of the enormous challenges any coach faces right now at OU, outside of their ability as a coach. But he has not earned nor should be given any more leniency or grace. Regardless of the other issues that need to be fixed. The record and on-court resume speaks for itself, and even without studying things at a micro level, the macro level of one tourney in 5 years is not acceptable.
Wanted it to work, but it hasn't. Time for Denny, Stephenson, and Harroz to be planning for Monday, March 16th, when we formally turn the page from the Porter Moser era.
