Fire Porter Moser

He and Bill Armstrong are in the same conference.

Braeuer is originally from Austin and played for Mark Turgeon at Wichita State. Assistant to Grant McCasland at both North Texas and Texas Tech.

Brad Underwood went from SFA directly to OSU before skipping out to Illinois after a year.

The last coach OU hired from the Southland Conference did pretty well, though it was a different era. Billy Tubbs came from Lamar.

My concern with Brauer is he’s only been a head coach for 1 year. Could be great or could be moser.

I wonder how Blair and Holst are coming along. Lots of promise on the roster, clearly with another year to get his guys in place, Moser will have things rolling!
Did Holst ever get cleared by NCAA. I know they decided to redshirt cause it was taking so long.

SFA beat McNeese at home last night, 67-60. They've split their two games this year. They'll probably play again in the finals of the Southland Conference tournament in Lake Charles. Winner goes to the big dance, winning coach probably gets a better job.

On coaches, JMO, but just because a guy is successful at a lower level doesn't mean he can be successful in the SEC. Just don't think record has anything to do with it. For me, I would need to watch some film and see if he understands the modern game. How solid are the fundamentals of the game followed by his kids, i.e. do they block out or just jump to rebound, do they follow their shots, does he know how to coach low post offensive play, do they pass up open shots to get a desired shot, what is their free throw shooting percentage, do they take advantage of the 35 second shot clock on defense, do they care and help on guarded 2 point shots and leave open 3 point options, etc.

In my view, these and other things describe a guy that does more with less. The difference between southland conference play and the SEC is in the Southland they play amateur basketball, the SEC is NBA lite (higher paid G league). Not even the same game. Not played the same way, not officiated the same way, nothing is the same. The only similarity is the use of a basketball.

One of the things I think Moser is struggling with this year is adjusting to kids playing for him that are making a lot of money. I think he is struggling with this issue. He has never had to coach kids with a lot of money before and he is struggling with it -- I think. In my opinion, it shows in the lack of edge or effort sometimes. This is the very reason I don't watch the NBA. Until the playoffs, it looks like a pickup game at the YMCA at an open gym night. Just don't enjoy it. So, I think an athletic director has to really assess a coaching candidate related to whether he has the type of makeup that would let him coach highly paid folks. In other words, you need a guy that would be a good NBA coach. I'm not sure what that looks like or how you determine this issue, just that, I think that is where we are in NCAA basketball.

No clue. As usual, no reporting by the beat writers. But I think he was going to redshirt anyways.
Regarding beat writers - I thought this comment from Collin Kennedy, which was a subset of his thoughts about how to turn around the program, was interesting: "It's hard to build a 'relatable' program in today's college basketball, but I think back to Lon Kruger days. Practices were open to the public (wild) which allowed face-to-face interaction with community members. This also allowed media to attend practices and, with the staff's green light, drum up some excitement about the team."

It made me wonder if part of the reason the beat writers don't get/give much information is because it's not easy to get/give. I know you could say, "It's their job," but it does seem like Moser and his program isn't as accessible as Kruger's was. I'm guessing, after a while and with the bad down year, writers eventually have the mindset of what's the point?

Just heard of Jordan Fee a couple of days ago. He used to be an assistant to D2 coaching savant Jim Crutchfield of Nova Southeastern, formerly of West Liberty. Crutchfield is very well regarded in the industry, won D2 national championships, didn't bother to try to move up. Jordan Fee is his guy.

Someone is going to hire him.
Too risky imo

A blurb about Fee from his wikipedia page. He only has one year as a head coach, but this was what he did: "He turned the Golden Knights team that had lost 3–23 in the previous season to a 32–3 record as the team won the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West division and the PSAC tournament." Pretty damn impressive, if only a very small sample size
Wait a second... I'm listening (but also I am not going to be suckered by 1 season's results, like Loser's lucky final 4). But we need a guy with more of a record imo

I’m pissed Joe C went after a guy with a horrible record but had a couple tourney runs. Those coaches NEVER WORK OUT. I wanted Mclasland, get a coach that has proven he WINS GAMES, first. BRING IN THE NEXT ERA OF OU BASKETBALL !!!

I don't think we're going to hire him from an assistant's job at Florida Atlantic. But someone lower than us will.
Yeah. I mean there may be something to be said about taking a chance on a guy and if he works out, maybe he'll be here 10 something years in return (but idk if the world works like that anymore - think everyone is always looking to upgrade).

I just think we can mitigate more risk for a more proven track record

Yeah, I get what you are saying, but man I hope no media member is so lazy or disinterested that he or she won't even bother asking a very basic question. It's not like it takes a lot of digging or prep work to ask him postgame or during a media availability, hey, what's your thinking on Atak's minutes over the past month, since he had a great game against Ole Miss? And more broadly, why haven't you been able to settle on a rotation two-thirds of the way through the season? Those aren't exactly brutal questions to ask.

Favorite thing about Lon was the open practices. Went to a bunch over the years. I don't know if anyone said they were open, but I also went to some Billy Tubbs practices. Nobody ever said anything. Thing about Billy, he just worked on what they did. Didn't seem to care what other teams were going to do. Maybe he did, just seemed like he didn't care. Maybe it was the way he talked about opponents. I never got the impression he game planned around what the other team did. If someone on here played for Billy, chime in and let us know if this is accurate.
