So you figure black folks have had it pretty good since the end of Civil War, then? Once we got rid of that slavery thing, it's been smooth sailing for them?
I'll say it again: White people experience and have experienced nothing that is remotely equivalent to the personal, societal, and institutional racism black folks experience and have experienced, and honestly, it's not even debatable. What's so hard to accept or acknowledge about that statement?
Are there black folks who resent or even hate white folks? Sure. There are a certain number of people of every color and culture who hate people of every other color or culture.
But it's when racism and oppression are societal and institutional, not just individual and personal, that the real damage gets done, that the real pain is caused.
Have you not read Erik Striker's interview? Did you not grasp why it was that the SAE video caused him such pain and anger? It's not this one incident, not by a long shot. It's a lifelong struggle, even today, when things are undeniably better than they once were.
