Future Sooners

Still more on the camp, I also saw Kaylon Williams and Katherine Zander there. Our 2012 commits Maddie Manning and Kamy Cole both did well in their drills where in one elimination competition Manning was one of 2 players left and in another Kamy Cole was the only player left that hadn't been eliminated. Cole and Manning both are impressive players and they held their own with the other elite players at the camp.

Jamee Swan was an impressive player and I hope she ends up at OU. She can get to the rim and she has a nice jump shot as well. She was often pitted up against the taller players and did well.

afan4hand - Great job as always! Many thanks for your posts. :clap

Me also!! This thread is by far the most fun part of OUHoops.com. I could really care less about recruits until they commit to OU. Then I love all the information I can possibly get about them.

Same here. Great info and Thanks!

After further research I think one of the players that were there from Tulsa was Jessica Washington.

Jessica was at the camp and apparently she really impressed Whitney by what was posted on Twitter.

Yes it was Jessica Washington, I'm my OP shes by far
The most Fundamentally sound Point Guard I know.. T'Ona Edwards from Northeast was There with washington, she's been getting big looks Also

Maddie Mannings AAU team the Kingdom Hoop Elite will be at the AAU Summer Jam at Woodbury, Mn. the 17th.-19th.. The 1st. team they will face on friday is Minnesota's W3Rams at 3:10 P.M. at Jefferson on court #1.
The winner of that game will face either Minnesota Fury Gold or Ladies Above The Rim from Nebraska at 12:40 P.M. on saturday the losers of the 1st. game plays at 9:10 A.M..
After getting to watch Maddie Manning going through drills at the T.O.P. camp at OU last weekend I feel even better about the quaility of talent Sherry is getting and look forward to our team staying at a high level.

Thanks! That's great news to hear!

One thing I really like about Maddie is her ability to jump. She holds the school record in the high jump and has placed at the state level in that event.

She has recognized the need to get stronger and hopefully she is hitting the weights hard. Good athlete with skills...can't have too many of those on the roster.

A person on Texashoops.com has reported that Chance Westmoreland will be the new head coach for Kamy Cole and the Brock Eagles. Westmoreland has been one of 2 girls basketball assistant's at Brock last season.

Hearing about all these players at the Sooner T.O.P. camp is just extremely encouraging to me. If you aren't aware of who some of these youngsters are that have been named by afan4hand, you will be.

Knowing that a number of recent Sooners came along with some new arrivals for the upcoming season, as well as both committed recruits for 2012 is simply icing on the cake. But let me just briefly mention some of the youngsters that showed up at camp, because this is the lifeblood that will keep the team highly competitive in the future.

And first let me say that any players in the recruiting classes for 2012 through 2015 that came to Norman are likely - at the very least - considering OU as a school of interest for their college futures. And that makes me one happy guy. :)

I suspect that incoming freshmen Kaylon and Katherine are probably already enrolled at OU to get a flying start on their educations at OU. The fact that Kamy and Maddie were both there pretty much seals the deal as to the firmness of their commitments to the program, so I feel pretty confident that OU won't have any late change of mind from either of those players regarding their desire to play for Sherri.

Regarding the young players that were mentioned, that's where the really significant news is found. Here's a little info on some of them...

Ashley Hearn and Teaira McCowan (who are legitimately 6'4 and 6'7 respectively) are both of the DFW Elite 2015 club team, and both will be freshmen in high school this year. Hearn will be playing for Bishop Lynch in Dallas, while McCowan will play for Brenham, which btw is the home of Blue Bell Ice Cream. While Teaira is probably more of a work in progress, make no mistake about her potential. She will likely be one of the top 25 players in her class, at the least. You cannot teach towering height combined with elite athleticism. And Ashley is already so complete as a player that she is legitimately in the discussion mix for the best player in the entire 2015 class. She is a truly exceptional baller that is already being chased by dozens of top programs, and she's only going to get a whole lot better.

Jamee Swan is a player we all know by now, a potential commitment for the 2012 entry year, and a very fine prospect in her own right.

Jessica Washington isn't just good, she's one of the best point guards in the country in the 2013 class. And that means that Sherri would likely be very, very happy if she continues to show interest in the school.

And last - but by far not the least - Brianna Turner (2014) isn't just another talented basketball player, she is literally a transcendent talent who is already being mentioned in the same category as players like Candace Parker and Maya Moore. Yes, she's that good, as well as the most genetically gifted player in her class, and certainly self-motivated for success to a truly exceptional degree. The only limit on her ceiling is the one that is self-imposed by herself, and that ceiling is way, way high, utterly beyond almost any other player not just from the 2014 class, but probably all of the classes of 2012-2014.

Needless to say, Brianna is a "lottery" player, in that any team that gets her commitment will instantly be in the discussion mix to win the national championship for the next four years.

So if you didn't know before, now you know why I feel so happy today. Because these great players showed up at Sherri's camp, and that's absolutely the most we could ask for at this time, and those hopes have been answered.

Like 35TT I dont get excited about recruiting until the recruit actually signs, but Good Grief!! You've shot my usual discipline all to hell.

While history says it isn't likely players like Turner, Hearn, and McKowan will sign with OU, if they keep coming to Sherri's camps anything is possible.

I have been watching these camp reports with fascination. I didn't really want to say anything on this thread since it is primarily concerned with those who have committed. But, it is interesting that so many rather outstanding prospects are choosing to camp at Sherri's camp. I can only assume that they aren't coming simply for the food and entertainment. Perhaps, they might have some other reason for attending, like an interest in OU or a respect for Sherri's ability.

A summer after Sherry Coale helped save the Big 12 ( see Tulsa World article - http://www.tulsaworld.com/sportsextra/article.aspx?subjectid=2&articleid=20110618_92_B1_CUTLIN162446 ) she was busy yesterday watching the talent at the OU Team Camp. One of the most interesting games was at 1 P.M. friday when Jessica Washingtons Jenks team took on Maddie Manning and her Ankeny team. With every OU coach looking on Ankeny led Jenks at the half 17-13. A Jenks player hit a 3 pointer near the end of the game to cut Ankeny's lead to 4 points, but Ankeny held on and won the match 35-30.
In the battle between the 2 point guards, Maddie Manning and Jessica Washington, Manning clearly won. Manning has good speed, can cut to the basket, make jumpers and looks to be a player that can make OU better IMO.
Jessica Washington was very fast and twice make baskets cutting through the defense to make the layup while drawing the foul. She got some steals from the other Ankeny players, but wasn't able to stop Manning as Manning drove around her with her speed and an occasional behind the back dribble when needed to get around players. Overall I'm likeing Manning more and more, Jessica Washington appears to have plenty of potential as well.
More good players I watched yesterday was Nicole Kornet and Nia Jackson from Liberty Christian they appeared to be improved from when they were at the camp last year. Either player would be good to get, but between the two I would choose Kornet.
Whitney Hand (without braces or tape) was present to watch as Liberty Christian took on Cherokee Trail. Liberty Christian led the game at half 36-13, but Cherokee Trails gave Liberty a better game in the 2nd. half before falling 55-27. Kornet hit 3's, made driving layups, jumpers, rebounded well and was very quick to get down the court.
I was told Liberty had been beaten on thursday by the Amarillo team. I watched the Amarillo team beat Norman yesterday afternoon with Sherry Coale watching on as she was sitting in front on my wife and I. While watching the game DaShawn Hardin came by to greet us for the 2nd. time that day. She remembered my wife and I from when we went to Pittsburg, Kansas to watch her play.
I also saw some potential in a player from Casicia Hall, she had good height, shot well, fought for rebounds. She had a #14 jersey and her schoolmates called her Jammie.
I watched other games involving Shawnee Mission East and Blue Valley form the Kansas City area, New Town Varsity, Southmoore, Westmoore, Norman North, Snyder, Garden City, Ks., Snyder and others. It doesn't cost anything to watch the games, just walk right in and enjoy the action. The games are at the Huff, The Loyyd Noble court and practice gyms as well as at Norman North.

Thanks afan for all the reports on the camp kids. I think it is safe to say we all appreciate the yeoman's work you and your wife do in watching and reporting on our future and current recruits. My hats off to you.
