GAME 14 - SEC OPENER #10 OKLAHOMA (13-0) @ #5 ALABAMA (11-2) 5pm CST on SEC NETWORK

First, bama is one of the 3-4 best teams in the country. Second, we looked like we were deers in the headlight in the first half. Just a step slow to react defensively. Third, poor gameplan in first half defensively. Better in second half.

Fears looked lost and like a freshman for the first time in the first half. Back to normal in the second

Lastly it was our first real road game and it looked that way

It would have helped if over the back was still a foul. That call has gone the way of the dodo bird.

Btw, i agree with you tiny. I would have been starting him and playing him until he fouls out all year.

This game is the perfect illustration of what I’ve said since the move to the SEC was announced. While the Big 12 was the best league for several years, even in those years, the SEC was the most athletic league. They have had the most NBA draft picks over the last number of years. We will see lots of big, fast, strong dudes all year, and we looked like a mid major athletically tonight. We won’t lose by 30 every night, and will certainly win some games. But we will be the second most athletic team on the floor just about every night. Add in the rebounding issue, and it’s going to be very hard for us to win games. W

This is exactly why I wish Moser would schedule a really good noncon opponent and go play them on the road. I’d rather get exposed the first week of December than have this happen at this stage of the season.
We really miss Shep’s expertise on putting together a schedule easy enough to get some Ws, but just difficult enough to prep for tougher games and March.

Need a guy like him running Ops.

Got home late and just finished watching the game. All I can say is… yikes! We just don’t have anyone competent inside that can compete with SEC bigs. Our defense was terrible and our offense wasn’t much better. I did not like the effort on defense at all.

I will get flamed for this but Porter Moser is over his head and will never get us to be a big time program. Poor use of time outs and in game rotations. Flame away but I will stand by my ideas. Way to many examples that PM is not our answer

lol … I replied to your earlier post about rebounding and I said size and skill are just as important… You said effort was all it was… NOW you say “with our lack of size”…

Make up your mind…🤣
Pretty simple, and not a contradiction. If a team has lack of size, you have to have great effort. Every time down. We did not have that tonight. Not even close.

Ernie Abercrombie could rebound. Charles Barkley. Draymond Green. Yet none over 6-6. I’d take any of them over Wague or Northweather to grab a board if needed. And both of them are at least 4-5 inches taller. Size doesn’t equate to great rebounders.

Hustle, aggressiveness, and attitude over size usually wins on the boards.

My guess is even with him, Moser would go this route. He clearly prefers to pile up easy wins rather than truly testing his team and risking a loss here and there. It sure seems like a conscious choice on his part.

just move on to Wednesday. If same result happens then I’ll panic
Scary thing ha that A&M is also an elite rebounding team. After today, if we don’t give unreal effort on the glass, it will be alarming. One thing I always liked about Kelvin is that when one of his teams played poorly in a certain area, you knew that would be fixed the next time out.

Same crap, different toilet. Going to be a long 2 months, folks! For the men's and women's teams.

Schedule did not have as much to do with this loss. Start of game we had several open shots and missed. This allowed the better team to play their game instead of ours. Hit a few early shots, and game flow may have changed. Also need to team rebound and not just have one guy go for it. Krueger many times did same thing and drove me nuts.

I have been watching ou play basketball since they played at the field house. During that 60 years ou you has only had one team that could beat this bama team at their place (1988)

I would not overact to this lose. Let’s see how they do over the next few games and we will know more.

Rothstein is reporting the ncaa has now gone to a 5 years to pkay model. If so, we should get jones and jeff back that will help. I also yhink this would result in the redshirt coming off of atak. He might help (tall and crazy long)

I still think 7-8 games can be won.

How many of our teams could have played them within 30 and not given up 400 offensive rebounds and almost 20 dunks? Losing is one thing. Being completely overmatched is another. Nothing that happened today was a fluke. It’s not like they shot the lights out. We aren’t going to all of a sudden become good at the 5, and guys like Goodine, Miles, and Elvis won’t suddenly become athletic enough to hang with the good guards in the conference.

As for JN and Jones … I’d love to have them back. But at this point, we need to not talk about them like they are All Americans. Jones scored 12 a game for Long Beach and JN has never played above the JUCO level. Expecting either of them to save our season seems like a reach. And who knows if they will actually play. Setting aside the eligibility issues, they first have to get healthy.

Nope....just stop right there. I'm not even sure Bama is in the top 4 of the SEC. Tennessee, Auburn, and Florida are better than Bama and Kentucky might be better than them as well. This excuse making (deer in headlights, etc.) because we are now in a kick-ass league athletically and don't look up to snuff is not a surprise if you've been paying attention. We went 13-0 in the non-con, but a few of us on here could see the warts and saw what was coming ahead of us. We got our asses kicked because Bama has a significantly better roster (athletically), they play to their strengths, and they are better coached. Some don't want to hear that and will give me the laugh icon, but this is our new reality. Once again, we whistled past the graveyard in non-con (I'm not complaining, we had some good wins.... but barely), but until we upgrade significantly from an athletic standpoint (with both size and length with skill), we are no better than a bottom half (at best) finisher in this conference. It sucks, but it isn't a surprise to some of us. Maybe we can sneak a few wins out that we shouldn't but tonight was a freaking reality check.
