He is football only unfortunatelyI really hope one of Denny’s first chores is to depose Moser.

Our guards were getting juked by simple crossovers all game. Coaching should have emphasized this, but players have to some desire to execute as well.It would be nice to see someone attempt to stop a straight-line dribble to our basket.
I really don't think this is true. Certainly we don't know for sure. His title doesn't suggest he is football only.He is football only unfortunately

His comments suggest he isn't making that call.I really don't think this is true. Certainly we don't know for sure. His title doesn't suggest he is football only.
The comments I saw said it would be a team effort. Even though Joe C. would get the credit before, if you don't think multiple people were involved with the decision making and approval process, I don't know what to tell you.His comments suggest he isn't making that call.

With OU decision makers, money speaks louder than reason. Buyout money that is.With as bad as things are going, in a year where OU clearly upped it's NIL and has a really good roster on paper, unless they start winning a bunch down the stretch, I don't see how you can keep Moser. Not with season ticket sales drying up, and record-breaking bad crowds for SEC games. Those are signs that a coach has lost support and pretty much has to be shown the door.
You're crazy imo. Loser is horrible.Good game by the kids and coach. Like the several of the SEC games, we played hard and I thought the effort was pretty good, but a few little things kept us from winning. Basketball by its very design, leads to close games between fairly equally talented teams. Beauty of the game.
Unlike many of you, I don't think Moser is a bad coach. I think he is a decent coach, not great. Outside of the top 8-10 teams in the NCAA, anybody that would have played Arizona State, Gonzaga, Nebraska, Bama, Florida, A&M, Missouri, and Arkansas, would have some Ls.
Appears to me like Moser used his available NIL money to go get the types of players with offensive skills that he normally hasn't had and couldn't recruit previously, and has found out that none of them can or will play defense hard enough to win these games. If you are less athletic/quick, then you really have to sell out defensively from an effort and anticipation standpoint to stop dribble penetration from elite players like Acuff and Thomas. We saw and benefited from this fact last year with Fears. Kids just aren't playing good enough defense. So, if this is your gripe, and think this is Moser's fault, then that is a reasonable opinion in my opinion. Otherwise, I don't agree with the coaching decisions complaints. In hindsight, when things don't work out you can always disagree with a decision, but I was OK with the game plan and the decisions made.
For me, this season will be remembered most for lost opportunity. I really like the talent on this team and still think this is the most talented team at OU in the last 8-0 years. From a win/loss standpoint however, it looks to me like Moser should have focused on less talented/skilled kids and more athletic kids with a track record of playing defense (think soares, moore etc). Just doesn't look to me that Moser can or will be able to get these kids to play good enough defense (for an entire game) to beat a good team. They play hard and focused for spurts but just not for the whole game. Like BV says all the time, everything matters. The kids just don't seem to buy that every possession is worth exactly the game and has the same effect on winning or losing.
Defense is effort, we have not had a solid defense. It is solely tied back to coaching. Ask any of us that played and coached, this is 100% on Moser.Appears to me like Moser used his available NIL money to go get the types of players with offensive skills that he normally hasn't had and couldn't recruit previously, and has found out that none of them can or will play defense hard enough to win these games. The problem here is, he has had less talent and did not do more with it.For me, this season will be remembered most for lost opportunity. And look at so many of Kelvin's teams at OU. We were not bursting with athletes, to say the least. I will never forget 2001, the first of the three straight Big 12 tourney titles. Went through MU, KU, and Texas. We had guys like Kelley Newton and Tim Heskett playing major minutes. Our opponents scored 65, 57, and 45 points. If memory serves, we scored 12 or 14 in the first half of the title game -- and won, because of defense.Defense is effort, we have not had a solid defense. It is solely tied back to coaching. We have no true offensive identity and haven't in 5 years, on Moser.
Our BLOB and final plays we run at the end of games are atrocious, on Moser.
I am really not sure what he actually does well at this point. Our most talented team is 1-7 in conference play. He is not a good coach at all.
The problem here is, he has had less talent and did not do more with it.
More on Defensive identity:
Years where we had a defensive efficiency rating OVER 100 (not great)
Moser (2 of 5): 2025, 2026
Kruger (2 of 10): 2014, 2018
Capel III (2 of 5): 2010, 2011
Sampson (0 of last 10): N/A
Loser (and any coach right now honestly) should be running a press full time. With the shortened shot clock, it really puts an offense in a bind and with a lot less options. Why do I say this? Bc when teams do it to us we barely get the ball across mid-court, usually with about 20-22 seconds. You deny a pass or 2 of a set, then the ball handler can quickly find themselves with 10 or less secondsAnd look at so many of Kelvin's teams at OU. And we have the athletes on this team in the front court. We have length 3-5 in the starting lineup. Moser chooses not to use it. The next time we press or run-and-jump or apply any pressure will be the first.
I agree. Our guards are very casual when it comes to defense. Our guards were getting juked by simple crossovers all game. Coaching should have emphasized this, but players have to some desire to execute as well.
I don't know about top 15, but a bunch have them top 25ish (20-30) and on a clear path to the Dance. BUNCH.Was talking at the game lastnight about this. They had double digit leads against Nebraska, Alabama, and Arkansas. They lost 3 road games to bad teams in USC, Miss State, and the double buzzer beater at Missouri.
How many coaches in the country have this Oklahoma team in the top 10-15?
Most national writers had us in the 40s preseason and most the analytics agreed, because they recognized what a lot of our fans didn't -- our bench isn't good. But you can win in college with an 8-man rotation if the coach is smart enough to recognize who the best 8 are and can develop the bench players throughout the season. This team should easily be a tourney team, given how much weaker the SEC this season. Was talking at the game lastnight about this. They had double digit leads against Nebraska, Alabama, and Arkansas. I agree. We have the athletes to play better defense now. But like in many areas they are not trained to play it like it is second nature. Effort is part of it but so is technique and attention to detail. This is a coaching problem. And look at so many of Kelvin's teams at OU. We were not bursting with athletes, to say the least.
