GAME 34 - ROUND 1 - OKLAHOMA (20-13) vs UCONN (24-10) 8:25pm CST on TNT

I appreciate the guys playing their asses off. It always feels like we’re playing short handed tho. Best moser season is still underwhelming. I’m ready for moser to find another job. Please make it happen.
People keep saying this. I keep saying be careful what you wish for.

The roster is/needs to be completed restructured whether they won or lost. I keep thinking an athletic guard like Oweh would have feasted tonight. Gotta get that in the portal. BUT, Glad they made the tournament! Glad I got to watch Fears play in person. Now onto the second most interesting time in college hoops: transfer portal season.

Fair assessment.

Sadly, it went kind of like I expected, just lower scoring than I expected.

Moser actually had the better game plan than UConn. Players have to hit shots. And I still want moser to leave, but can acknowledge a good game.
And one thing about the game plan, no one was asked to do anything they weren't comfortable with or hadn't done all year. The offense generated plenty of wide opn 3s, have to hit them.

Outscored by 8 with the game tied the final 5 mins. Couldn’t get to 60 pts against a really bad defensive team.
We've got plenty to be upset about regarding coaching this year. But tonight was on the players. First time they played a team that didn't overmatch them athletically in months and choked.

Uconn will get their wish to play the SEC champ and will be shown no mercy by missing 10 layups

Wide open layups. Wide open 3's. Just couldn't put it in the cylinder tonight.

Our defensive gameplan was REALLY good. Especially in the 2nd half. Our offensive gameplan was really good. Got us a TON of good looks. Just couldn't get the rock to fall.
Loved those last few minutes. Great to see the ball in Miles’ and Goodine’s hands rather than Fears. Only surprise was that he didn’t put Sam in on one leg in place of Mo.

Agreed… moser had an excellent gameplan. Sure a couple bad offensive play calls towards the end but that does not discount the fact that we couldn’t hit any shots from deep and a lot of missed layups.

Well we did get back to the tournament. If I remember correctly that was the consensus goal by most of the regular posters during the off-season.
The goalposts have moved. Going into the season, 99% of the people on the board said Porter needed to get this team to the tourney to save his job. Now many have moved the goalposts.

It was the substitutions and bad play calling, especially in crunch time. He’s not a good in-game coach and I can’t tell you how many close games we’ve lost in the last 2 minutes, but it’s a lot.

Only post I’ll make in this thread-

That game was trending VERY well for us until Norweather came in for Mo around the 7ish minute mark. UConn put him in 3 straight pick and rolls all ending in easy buckets. Then drove into him leading to a shooting foul and him getting pulled. He came in while we were tied, played like 5 possessions and was taken out once we were down 6.

Absolutely imperative to push him out this offseason and upgrade substantially at that position. And no, Kai Rogers is not the answer there. He will not be able to handle SEC physicality from the jump and will need time.

I’m proud of Fears. Awesome game for the kid.

Play calls toward the end of the game get tougher when they know who you have to go to every single time.

I thought the game plan was solid. Defensively we got after it and made it tough for them.

It would have helped if we could have hit ANYTHING from outside but UCONN played a good defensive game.

Coaching wasn't the issue tonight, no matter how bad some of you want to complain about it.

We'll see who stays and who leaves. Hopefully the portal is good to us and maybe we get super lucky and Fears stays but I doubt it.
