GAME 34 - ROUND 1 - OKLAHOMA (20-13) vs UCONN (24-10) 8:25pm CST on TNT

(Boulder feel free to change title)

I wanted to get this up to look at and break down the UConn matchup a bit.

Some key points to note:
-OU has a slightly worse offense and slightly better defense than UConn.
-UConn does not cause a lot of turnovers on defense (good for OU)
-UConn is really good at blocking shots
-Both teams are elite at the FT line
-OU's advantage will be the 3pt line
-UConn's advantage will be scoring interior (high FG% from 2)
-UConn is a good OR% team
-OU plays faster paced, UConn allows for faster paced play (OU edge)

UConn's schedule and results for 2025:

UConn was preseason ranked 5th in KP (35th now) with 55th SOS:
-Their best 4 wins are against 9 Gonzaga (over-rated), 29 Baylor (meh), 28 Marquette x2 (good wins). 3 home games and an away. (8 seed, 9 seed, 7 seed twice)
-Their worst 4 losses are against 206 Seton Hall, 81 Colorado, 74 Dayton, 56 Villanova (0 tournament teams)

OU was preseason ranked 40th in KP (38th now) with 15th SOS:
-Our best 4 wins are against 14 Arizona, 15 Missouri, 23 Louisville, 25 Michigan. 3 Neutral and 1 home. (4 seed, 6 seed, 8 seed, 5 seed)
-Our worst 4 losses are against 88 LSU, 44 Texas, 34 Georgia, 26 Ole Miss (not in, 11 seed, 9 seed, 6 seed)

OU has a much better resume, this game is winnable. You take out the UConn name and compare both teams blind, OU has a definite shot and has been tested much more than UConn.

UConn is hitting at the right time, just like OU and both teams will look to ride that wave into the 2nd round.
Great stuff! All this means is we win 💥

I see the UConn and Florida (if we get there) games being decided on the same issues, keeping them off the offensive glass, 3 point shooting percentage and, mainly, officiating.

If gang rape is allowed around the rim, then hard to see us winning either game. If the game is called anywhere close to how it is supposed to be called, then I give us a good chance in either game. In short, if we get SEC officials, I don't like our chances. We should be battle tested, so that might help. We got the last game time slot for the first round, which I think helps. We have a bunch of guys with minor injuries and we had a really tough last couple weeks. The long break until we play should allow us to heal up and get both physically and mentally rested.

I give us a 50/50 chance in the UConn game. I don't like our chances in the Florida game, if we make it. But, you never know. Team has been surprising me since the last Florida game. And, with Fears you always have a punchers chance.

1. Can fears get to the rim and not get swatted repeatedly?

2. Are we on fire shooting the 3 ball?

3. Does wague get in foul trouble?

4. Can we block them out and limit rebounds?

Those are the top things I'm looking at

I would love for Moore to get back to pre LSU form. His athleticism could be a problem for UCONN IF he plays well.

Moore has become a below rim player for some reason as of late. I don't even remember the last crushing dunk he's thrown down. If he can't switch it up, I'd rather him not shoot in the lane at all and look to kick instead

I don't know if that knee that he tweaked is giving him problems or not. It seemed like he was having issues before that, too.

IMO, he's going at the rim too soft, like he's trying to avoid contact and use finesse/athleticism to get the shot off. He just needs to go hard to the basket and at the rim and force the official to make the call. Especially with how well he shoots from the line.

But yeah, need him to get back to the player he was for us to be successful this weekend.

Yea and their four will be a tough matchup for him.

This has been the key to ou’s success. It’s not reasonable to expect ou to suddenly be a good rebounding team but they damn sure can take care of the ball with a guard heavy lineup.
Agreed. If we can simply take care of the ball (11 TO’s or fewer) and shoot at a decent % from 3, I think we win this first game.

Need Moore to drop 30 tomorrow. Leave it all out there!
If Fears becomes the Fears vs Georgia and Michigan we probably win this one. If not.............well..............
