Does OU have a General Manager for men’s hoops? Haven’t seen Porter mention this position.
General manger of compliance? Yeah, OU prolly has that tho lolNo, they don't.
So you don't fall behind even more in the NIL game. Why does hoops need a general manager?
Just seems unnecessary. With a small roster and an existing staff/Atheltic department, shouldn't need someone just to oversee thatSo you don't fall behind even more in the NIL game.
You'd probably have someone that does both men & women's basketball. Just gives someone dedicated to that side of the recruiting ($$$), which is now by far the biggest thing recruits care about.Just seems unnecessary. And hopefully someone who could help with scheduling. You'd probably have someone that does both men & women's basketball. Just gives someone dedicated to that side of the recruiting ($$$), which is now by far the biggest thing recruits care about.
meh. Therre is no reason a coach and AD staff shouldn't be able to handle a handful of kids when it is their full time jobOff the top of my head, several programs have a GM. Tech, Texas, Syracuse, Arkansas, USC, Villanova, Butler, St Johns, and now St Bonnie with Woj as the GM. I believe Duke was the first to hire a dedicated GM. Some of the programs do oversee men's and women's.
The evolving state of the game necessitates adding one, at least, as every program that is serious about hoops will eventually have a GM. I'd rather have my staff spend 100% of their time coaching and recruiting than getting involved in NIL budgets, agents, negotiations, contracts, etc.
And to Wichita's point, if you don't think a quality Basketball Ops guy makes a difference... if we had Mike Shepherd running things and compiling the schedule, I'm convinced we would have made the tourney all three years under PM. He was THAT good.
The point is that in both of these positions- GM and Ops- the behind-the-scenes guys can be as critical to a program's success as the HC.
And that is what is disappointing about the admin's commitment- or lack thereof.
When the best programs (Duke, Nova) and/or the best coaches (Calipari, Pitino) are hiring a GM, and others are following by doing the same, it tells you otherwise.meh. Therre is no reason a coach and AD staff shouldn't be able to handle a handful of kids when it is their full time job
Those are programs that have that luxury. We don’t. I don’t see it as a top issueWhen the best programs (Duke, Nova) and/or the best coaches (Calipari, Pitino) are hiring a GM, and others are following by doing the same, it tells you otherwise.
If our program had the resources, we would hire a GM. We don’t. If we had the money and resources like football, we would absolutely have a GM.Those are programs that have that luxury. We don’t. I don’t see it as a top issue
Yeah…that’s not their job. There’s a reason why coaches aren’t GMs in professional sports.meh. Therre is no reason a coach and AD staff shouldn't be able to handle a handful of kids when it is their full time job
It absolutely is there job in college lolYeah…that’s not their job. There’s a reason why coaches aren’t GMs in professional sports.
Then why does football have one? Why are other schools hiring one? College coaches work insane hours, throwing handling agents & all that stuff shouldn’t be added to their job.It absolutely is there job in college lol
Football is a completely different animal because of shear volume. Then why does football have one? Why are other schools hiring one? College coaches work insane hours, throwing handling agents & all that stuff shouldn’t be added to their job.
