Goldwire

No reward? Same crowd was on reaves as well. How’d that work out?

I definitely stand by the no reward comment. AR was a big time scorer, first team all conference, and future NBA player. All things I saw at the time. That’s why I could live with some questionable decisions on his part … yes, he took tough shots, but he also was far and away our best offensive player and could make shots and plays no one else could. Harkless isn’t in the same stratosphere, so there is very little upside to him forcing things.

Harkless needs reeled in and needs to be pulled just like the others when he blows a play. He shines as a glue guy. Hes trying to fill a role that is bigger than him IMO but no one else really can do it either.

It's possible Harkless was asked to play that larger role.

I think you may be right. Harkless would be the obvious choice if not for the baggage he brings to the table, namely his turnovers and poor decisions. I still think if you ask the other players, most if not all will say EJ is their leader.

If not him, I have a question for the board: Who would it be?

I don’t think any of us have questioned whether he is/should be the leader. But that in no way means he should play hero ball and not suffer consequences for turning it over. Eduardo Najera was one of the best leaders I’ve seen, but he didn’t try to frequently try to dribble through multiple defenders from the perimeter. True leaders know their roles and play accordingly.

If you’re asking who I think should have the ball in his hands late in games, I think we should simply run our offense and look for a good shot. We don’t have anyone who is good enough offensively to be “the guy.” When our offense is clicking, it’s because of movement … player and ball. I’d prefer we keep that approach late in games rather than giving the ball to EJ and watching him throw it away or get stripped. I’m not saying that happened at the end of the KU game, but it has happened a few times this season.

All good points! Nothing here I don’t agree with.

Like you, I get frustrated when Harkless goes off of the rail in the final minutes of a game when he should be at his best, especially on defense. I will continue to search for answers.

Nobody has ever accused me of knowing anything, but I agree with WichitaSooner. Just run our offense and whoever gets a good shot -- take it.

And most importantly, make EJ wear newer shoes so he doesn't slide around like he is wearing dress shoes. Put a damp towel down on the sideline for goodness sake. You would think he plays on ice. BTW, I love EJ as a player and he works as hard defensively as anyone I can remember. He just needs to rein it in on offense.

It’s written all over Harkless’s face that he’s feeling some type of way that the offense is ran through Groves. That’s why he’s taking bad shots and not as engaged as last year.

well, if the post is a threat that opens it up for the guards...so ya. It prob does.

Everybody wants to be the man in basketball…. I’m sure he feels this way.

He could be the man if he goes back to being a tough guy…..

But it'll likely stay in play (in Harkless' mind) until it's retracted.

Great, just saw that the Baylor game tomorrow is on the Big12 network or ESPN+ only.

I heard that Moser said he was better yesterday but it would be a Saturday decision and Chargois definitely out again for Baylor.

Just read an update and you’re correct, Moser said Noland is still in concussion protocol and status not yet determined.

Ugh, just read Moser now says probably no on Noland to err on the side of caution.

The mountain gets taller!!
