Basketball 101: Passing ahead early in transition and reversing the ball quickly will lead to easy offense.

************************************

Basketball 101: Good teams communicate with each other as much on offense as they do on defense.

************************************

Basketball 101: When using a ball screen you're more effective if you get your shoulders square to the basket immediately after using it.

************************************

Basketball 101: The point guard isn't the only player that should be vocal on the court.

************************************

Basketball 101: It is more important for a post player to be aggressive and have a motor than to have pretty low post moves.

************************************

Basketball 101: Being a threat to shoot causes the defense to close out hard, which creates even more offense.

*************************************

Basketball 101: When you're pressured on the perimeter look to the post to relieve pressure.

*************************************

Basketball 101: Offensively you should step toward the pass while the ball is in the air...especially vs pressure.

Well duh!!!!!! Excellent post, now think how many fundamental mistakes does this team make. We have the talent, we just don't think "basketball smart" some times.

Roc, I thought of you when I posted that because you have mentioned several of those things from time to time.

Thanks, what comes to mind after reading those points, four things comes up.

We don't really do a very good job of screening. Most D-1 teams do a good job of switching, but if the screener would roll as soon as the switch occurs, you can pin the defender behind you and at least have an option for the ball handler.

The girls do a pretty poor job of coming and meeting the ball on passes, I was taught that in the sixth grade, pretty basic fundamentals.

Whitney Hand was a master at being ready to shoot when she received a pass, triple threat position, don't see that very often from this group.

Lastly our post players don't really do a very good job of showing for the ball in pressure situations. They are getting better, but need to really improve.

All these things can easily be fixed, the main thing its just like rebounding, YOU HAVE TO WANT TO, AND YOU HAVE TO WORK ON YOUR WEAKNESSES TO GET BETTER. I think thats all I'm going to say about that!

From what I've read, Ortiz is very good at not only getting the ball to the open player but also very good at passing the ball where the shooter needs it in order to be ready to shoot.

Every video I have seen of her has impressed me. She makes some really good decisions and is not afraid to take a shot when her team needs her. Reminds me of Maddie. I think Gabbi, Peyton, and Maddie will impress us all next season.

I'm not giving up this early on 2014, but we sure need some improvement and get our "mojo" back from the early games.

Norm, you've laid out some great fundamentals and skills. But what I see missing...tenacity, attitude, passion (different from cheering from the bench), power and chemistry. These cannot be taught.

Sound like the San Antonio Spurs to me that's why they are my basketball team to watch.

How long is the list of college coaches who do not teach every one of those points?
