Sherri and Lon are both doing great coaching jobs this year! I sure didn't expect either team to win as many games as they have.

I am trying to understand how good coaching works. DaShawn Harden went undefeated her Senior in Highschool leading her team to a 25-0 state championship, came to OU for a year and was not considered to be very beneficial but now is playing for Johnson County Community College the number 1 team in he Nation and have lead them to a 23-1record so far and was the Player of the week and know being recruted by schools other than OU? What is the problem or is the a problem.? Does coaching make a difference?

In my opinion, to answer your question, yes coaching does make a difference. Look at this scenario. I'm not picking on any players, just stating fact. Portia Durett, first team JUCO all-american, signs with the Sooners. Sherri loses 4 players to injury, three of them could make a claim to being starters. Portia really hasn't contributed a lot to this years team, except some decent minutes to give our bigs some much needed rest. Yet with all the difficult situations that the Sooners have had to overcome, she has coached this team above and beyond all of our expectations and will make another NCAA tournament when I thought at best we would go to the WNIT. So yes coaching makes a difference.

As far as DeShawn is concerned. I really liked her, I saw some excellent potential. Just from what I saw, I thought she was a typical raw freshman. Tons of talent, just wasn't quite ready for the big time, but would have been with a little more seasoning. She seemed a little lost at times and seemed to struggle. I would have no problem with her coming back to the Sooners, but I don't think that is going to happen. I wish nothing but the best for DeShawn and continued success.

I still think talent is by far the most important aspect of winning but, I certainly believe the coach helps utilize, develop, and motivate that talent to maximize the potential. Sherri and Lon have both done that this year, exceeding expectations.

Yep, you can have the best coach on the planet, but if you ain't got the horses to pull the wagon, you can only do so much.

I don't see where coaching comes into play with her. Not beneficial? I can remember Sherri sitting Morgan and going with her in several key games. I thought she did well and was really looking forward to her being a Sooner. I do have questions with a player like Goodrich, from Oklahoma, going to KU. At her camp every year Sherri would sign Goodrich's shirt with something about can't wait until you are at OU and crap like that.

Can you really compare 'coaching' when talking about transfers as opposed to kids who have never transferred? Possibly the only interesting thing I ever heard Eddie Sutton say was this comment about transfers and JC players. He said he liked to coach transfers and JC players because they knew they were on their last chance. They couldn't transfer again without losing a year of eligibility and this made them much more 'coachable'.

Yep. And recruitment of said talent is one of the measures of a coaches talent.

Portia was supposedly a great JUCO player, but it hasn't translated well for her yet this year. It has everything to do with the level of competition at those levels. Im sure Deshawn will do great there where the speed of the game is much slower. Im tired of hearing about what has left OU. MOST CHOSE TO LEAVE FOR ONE REASON OR ANOTHER. WE HAVE 9 GIRLS OUT THERE BUSTING THEIR HUMP EACH GAME, SUPPORT THEM NOT THOSE THAT HAVE LEFT. SOMETHING DIDNT MESH WITH THEM, SO GOOD-BYE PEACE OUT. WE ARE A MUCH BETTER TEAM WITHOUT THEIR EXTRA BAGGAGE. BOOMER DARN SOONER.

END TRANSMISSION
DARTH SOONER OUT!!!!

And just what extra baggage are you referring to that these ladies supposedly hindered the team with? (sorry for ending in a preposition).

How about whatever it was that caused them to leave? He's not trying to start and argument, just say support the ones that are here.

He is saying the girls that left had baggage. That is not necessarily true. No reason to take a shot at them because they left.

Norm, I believe by baggage, he's only referring to whatever it was that caused them to leave - He's not taking a shot at them, just saying we need to spend our time and efforts supporting the one who are here.

This is what he said:

"WE ARE A MUCH BETTER TEAM WITHOUT THEIR EXTRA BAGGAGE."

That's not taking a shot at those players?!?! I do not think we are better off without Harden, Zander, or Jeffcoat nor am I aware of any "baggage" they possessed while here.

It seems VERY clear to me that he is glad they're gone.

(Your posts) are going out of your way to interpret something as negatively as possible just so you can argue about it. And of course I was dumb enough to oblige you.....
