Gottlieb with the "Dayton finally just ran out of gas"

The best part was when continually ripped lon for using his bench .why would he not rotate and run our starters in the ground?that was a huge advantage against dayton ,why not use it?
The last five minutes they were gassed and we were fresh , all because lon really used our depth the last two games.
Lon's use of the bench was the difference in this ball game, and doug was calling him for doing it.

bingo,geeting our starters rest is why we were able to finish strong while the flyers ran outta gas and crashed

Pretty much this. Doug said we'd win. He said a lot of good things about our players and the way we play defense. It's okay for him to compliment the other team or criticize some of our play. That's his job, it's not a slight.
 
I really hope some of you aren't this sensitive in real life. Gottlieb has been very complimentary and honest about this team.
 
Doug Gottlieb did an AWESOME job this weekend. He was right on the money that Dayton ran out of gas. While it wouldn't have hurt him to mention that OU had something to do with that, I'm not going to whine like a little baby over it. I couldn't stand Jon Sunvold as a player, either, because he beat us all the time. But Sunvold always did a great job covering OU games and I put Gottlieb in the same category. It's actually refreshing to have a color analyst who understands my favorite team and is not just reading about us on the plane ride to OKC.

Some people are so thin skinned they make hemophiliacs think they have it made.
 
I thought Doug was fine. Better than I was��. Doug knows his stuff. Sometimes wish he would not talk quite as much though.

Or how about great change up to get the ball down court to Spangler for the dunk that basically put it away. If fact most of the criticizers were absent when the game turned OU's way.

You have some good thoughts at times, but lately you spend most of your time complaining about other posters' complaining. This is the third or fourth thread I've seen today where you are b!tching about comments on a game thread. Fans are emotional and there are things that are going to be uttered on a game thread that you aren't going to like....we all get it. It's actually quite simple, instead of lecturing everyone you deem to a bad fan, get back to some quality analysis which you have the capability of providing from time to time.....just sayin.
 
I thought Doug did an excellent job, once again, calling our game. His observations were astute. He wasn't over-critical ... in fact he was very complimentary of both coach and team.

You've seen me complain in several threads, too. Because many of these posters have been dogging this team the whole freaking season, and it gets old.

Here are some direct quotes from the game thread, all posted with plenty of time remaining in the game:

we're not winning this game.

Eff this I'm out. Seen this script enough

Well we got football to look forward to...oh wait a minute

Get Spangler off the floor...can't hit ****...embrassing

Dumbass play hield. We just aren't snart

Those comments are downright embrassing and not at all snart. And there are plenty more just as bad as these; this is just a small sampling.

Ryan Spangler has been a warrior since the day he set foot in Norman, and he deserves the respect of everyone who sits on his ass on the couch and claims to be a Sooner fan. We all get frustrated, but honestly, comments like the above cross the line. And the game thread is rife with them game after game after game.

I thought Doug was great. Gives better insight than most (especially big12 teams) and is objective both ways. Also he doesn't stick to the pre-game headlines like Fran does. He actually talks about the game and who is playing well that game, not boasting some high profile guy the whole game even if they are playing average.

I agree with you and I get frustrated. Hell, I'm not completely innocent as I have probably said something somewhere in a game thread that could be construed as too negative. And some of those comments you mentioned above are way over the line. I would take it up with the mods in extreme cases where posters go too far.....or do what I do and just ignore it. It's not worth getting worked up over or threads being hijacked because you, I, or whomever think comments are "too critical" or harsh.
 
As to the topic on gotlieb, he is not working any of the 4 regional sites. That with the fact that he was regulated to the tru TV games should be evidence of where he stands in the Turner /cbs pecking order

And yet I think he's one of their best color guys. He just has less seniority.

... and? Doesn't change the FACT that he did an awesome job and is an excellent color guy.
 
"oklahoma has always had a basketball thug....". lists Renzi, Eduardo, Spangler....isn't exactly "always". even accepting the term "thug" which i don't even as "glowingly" defined by Gottleib.

i thought that was a little rough. calling us land thieves in the albany game....my family were Sooners in the real sense, but that didn't need to happen. my great great granddad was living near Lela, Ok for years in Indian Territory, trading with the Osage and Cherokee....he didn't need the federal government to tell him where he could and couldn't live. the real land thieves are everyone in the US, particularly the east coast....and the federal guv. just saying. "land thieves" is for UT and OSU message boards, it's fine there....not national broadcasts.

doug could be worse, but his damning with faint praise thing in our games is too much sometimes.

doug played for eddie sutton, owes eddie a lot for a second chance. eddie is no stranger to a hard foul.

I personally enjoyed his comment after the Dayton player air balled the free throw. He essentially said he'd been there done that haha
