Gottlieb with the "Dayton finally just ran out of gas"

I thought DG was off the mark regarding Booker yesterday. He totally ignored Frank's recent contributions and didn't mention his early injury troubles. To hear Gottlieb tell it, you'd have thought Booker had been a total bust this season, and that's just not accurate.

really? I heard him say numerous times that Booker is a better shooter than his numbers on the year state.

Yes, but on a couple of occasions, he made Frank's contributions on the season sound worse than they've been.

To your point, one big reason Frank's numbers are down is that he was injured for a good chunk of the season. So, in all fairness, that should be mentioned.

I didn't think it was egregious, but overall, his characterization of Frank's season was worse than Frank deserved.

LOL at the Gottlieb criticism. I'm pretty thin skinned as far as announcers, and I was VERY pleasantly surprised at not only how insightful about OU's team Gottlieb was, but also how it almost seemed like he was mildly rooting for us. We all hear things differently obviously, but man!

I've always been curious why people let announcers get to them so much. Literally nothing they say can have any sort of impact on the game.

As for Gottlieb, I think he's really good. He's knowledgeable and entertaining without having to resort to silly antics like Bill Raftery or Dick Vitale. Sure, he might get a dig or two in at OU every now and again, but it's never anything malicious.

A bad announcer is like a gnat, buzzing in your ear while you are trying to concentrate on something important - a terrible distraction!

I've never had a problem with Gottleib. He does a good job.

Gottlieb does a fantastic job. People always hear what they want to hear as far as announcers. If you took offense to his comments, you need to chill.

Personally, I would love to be known as a "basketball thug." Every team needs one to win. That's where team toughness and leadership comes from - the guy who knows his role and performs it to the best of his ability.

Fair point. If I do get annoyed about an announcer, it's usually more about their antics than about the content of anything they say. For example, I can't recall Gus Johnson saying anything slightly controversial, but his undying effort to become part of the story/highlight drives me insane. I won't listen if he's announcing.

Gottlieb does none of that, so he doesn't bother me.

Yeah, Dougie's okay in my book too. When we fell behind in the second half, his commentary kept me from completely losing my mind. Without him, I may have chickened out and changed the channel.

I am glad you said that because Doug mentioned that they would be right back in it if they just played D without fouling ... and thats what they did ... and they were right back in it. It was very prophetic and insightful on his part and I will defend him no matter what these naysayers wanna spew.

I think my favorite thing about Gottlieb though is the (insert whatever)-eating grin he has on his face when they show the announcers. It's like he's trying to make his buddies back home laugh or something. Goofball... Cracks me up.

Gottlieb... When I was at A&M he was waiting to inbound the ball coming back after halftime. At many CBB games they will pass out in game stats to radio and tv row. Gottlieb was on the court waiting to inbound the ball and he grabbed one from the girl and studied it as the ref and defensive player stood there watching like wth. ATM fans didn't know too much about bball back then, but he became a crowd favorite real quick when he shot the ball or attempted free throws. Ahh the days...

I love the way he rags on himself for being such a horrid shooter. That kid airballed a freethrow the other day and gottlieb told his partner "you're lucky enough to be sitting next to the only broadcasting person who has also done that in a game. a few times." It was hilarious. He is everything but boastful about his limitations as a player.

I'm in the pro-Gottlieb camp, too. I think he does a pretty darned good job, overall.
