Grandstaff highlights

Wow! Austin has some serious range from behind the arc. Some of the shots he made had to be from 25 or more feet.

Thanks for posting, tdsooner!

Spoke to a couple folks that's been around practice and Austin is a gym rat (no surprise) but he is shooting lights out.
Not earth shattering, but always good to hear.

His jumpshot looks a lot like Buddy's. Similar form and quick release.

Great form, very consistent. So does Woodard slide back over to point and James/McGusty/Grandstaff all play 2? Grandstaff can play 2nd semester next year, correct?

Yes, he'll be eligible to play in January of next year. In view of Woodard's success as the off guard this season, I think LK will do everything he can to keep him there.

My guess is McGusty, Odomes and Strong will get a chance to prove what they can do in Isaiah's spot during practice and in the first semester. I don't have a clue if one of them will eventually emerge as the clear choice? If it's a close battle between two or more, that spot may not be decided until the beginning of conference time next year.

he can play the 1st day after the first semester ends .. so Dec 17th ..

he will only miss 6 or 7 games .. and he CAN play in the 2 ex games ..

I think he is actually eligible in December right after Finals are over

Based on what happened this season with a Wichita State player (Frankamp) who transferred from KU during the fall semester of the previous season, I think Grandstaff will be eligible as soon as his fall grades are turned in. WSU played two games during their finals week this season, and they made sure that Frankamp took all his finals on the first possible day so that he could get eligible ASAP. Obviously we have plenty of more important things to focus on right now, just wanted to (hopefully) add some insight based on what I saw happen locally a couple months ago! Coincidentally, OU plays WSU in December -- probably shortly before he will be eligible.

If he is a starter next year, that might actually benefit the team because it will get a back up some big minutes early in the year.

I'm pretty sure this is right. I don't know how next year's basketball season and academic calendar will match up, but I expect Grandstaff to be available for 3 or 4 games in mid-late December 2016.

this is a good point ... even if he is the 6th man ... we will have 20-30 extra min to share before he is eligible ..

Nice stroke and distance. Not sure if he gets off the ground enough to get his shot off in front of 6'5 or 6'6 defenders.

On the mix tape, he has easy left handed layups that he insisted on shooting with his right hand. Hopefully the coaches will fix him of that because he's going to get run off the three point line a bunch.

Looks like a fantastic shooter.. was hoping he was more athletic. But we can always use shooters

I really doubt Woodard goes back to PG full time unless out of absolute necessity. Gary originally offered this and I now agree that the original plan was for Strong to start at PG next season with Woodard staying in his current role. Strong's injury obviously throws a wrench in this plan and, with the large numbers of wing players available, it's possible the plan has to be adjusted.

Woodard is going back to the point unless McGusty can play point.

No way that happens. Jordan had a banner year after Lon gave him the freedom to move freely on the perimeter without the pressures of running our offense.

He will continue to have the ball in his hands, just as he did this season. But he will not be saddled with the duties of a point guard the way you seem to think. That responsibility will fall on McGusty, Strong or Odomes, likely in that order.

That's because he's the 3rd option. He's not the focal point of the offense. Next year he will be. He will have everyone's best defender on him. He will be the point. Kruger isn't going to have an inexperience point guard. Cousins at least ran point in high school. Woodard was point guard for 2 years and he will finish at the point.

No chance it's James?
Seems like he's been running alongside Woodard a little bit recently.

I really doubt Strong is going to come in and start, so I'd imagine it's somebody we have on campus.
