Kruger reminds me a little bit of Scott Brooks in that I find myself shaking my head at some really frustrating things that would seem to be correctable, but ultimately I am pleased with the results. I think LK took this group about as far as we could have realistically hoped. This isn't a particularly talented team. Buddy and Thomas are probably our only guys that would be in the rotation for the majority of the teams remaining in the tourney-- and quite a few who didn't make it this far.
I am content with the season and happy for them that they get to hang a banner. They earned it and deserve it. Before the year I thought the Sweet 16 would be a good goal. They certainly could have won tonight, but they also could have lost to Dayton. We just weren't good enough/consistent enough to make a truly deep run in the tourney. Our offensive droughts and lack of size were bound to catch up to us.
I'm a little more harsh than you... I'd say this was a very good season, not a great one. Maybe it's just semantics.
But through four years Lon has done a very, very good job righting the ship. I think he's mostly done it with an under-talented roster and simply maximized their skills. Now, my hope is that he brings in better talent and we can take the next step.
Buddy should come back. Unless his family is in dire financial straits and he is willing to take a paycheck overseas right away, he should come back. He is nowhere near being a first round NBA talent right now and he could be a part a special run next year if some things fall into place.
