Guys getting tired...

What people are failing to grasp is you use your bench to rest players for that particular game not 2 months away. If rest becomes an issue for any of the starters, they'll back off some in practice. How many minutes each game they put in affects them for ONE individual game only.

A rare exception would be a Saturday triple overtime followed by a Big Monday away game. These guys aren't as fragile as some of you think.

Just wait until the end of the season...

This team is going to have a hard time come March because Kruger has played Hield about 95% of the possible minutes.

I said it in another thread, but this issue is being absurdly overblown.

Put it this way---OU has 15 games left this regular season. Let's say Lon finds a way to get Buddy 4 more minutes of rest in each of those games. Do you really think that 60 minutes of game time, spread out over the course of two months, would be the difference for Buddy "come March"? That's just silly.

Thanks, for the tip. I literally have friends and acquaintances that have played for OU, OSU, TU, ORU and Arkansas. One of which had a successful NBA career, and to a man they will tell you it's a joke. The games are easy compared to all the time spent practicing (team and individually). Spanglers production declines as the season goes on due to an increase in the competition and the subsequent decrease in confidence that creates. As for March, we will see how the team performs, but winning or losing will have zero to do with the amount of minutes players played in January games. What will have an Impact is the quality of competition, match ups, and team confidence.
Cool story.

I'm telling you I have two good friends that played at OU and both are worried about the team's legs by March. Maybe they're just getting old....

Game minutes are NOT easier than practice minutes and lifting/running are completely different than the wear and tear of a game.

Good arguments from both sides. Honestly, I just don't know.

In most athletic endeavors the harder you work the better and stronger you become, I wonder why so many believe the opposite is true of basketball. For example: I lift weights 3x a week for 5 months at the end of 5 months I am stronger. I run 5 miles a day for 5 months, at the end of the training I am faster. I play basketball games 35 minutes 2-3x per week for 5 months and I'm completely worn out, makes sense. Meanwhile people my age and older are playing 35 minutes a game in the NBA and are rested, weird.

Great analogy. Unfortunately, I'm in my 40s, thus I need a little bit longer in between to recover.:) I think the other item of note is at the end of the season (between the conference season/conference tournaments and then again between the conference tournament/NCAA tournament), there are extra days of rest to recover....in some cases 6 - 7 days. Unless you have an injury that has hampered you, I've never bought into the "fatigue" of a season at the college level, especially with veteran players who are used to playing that many games over a course of several years.

then buddy shouldn't even think about turning pro ... 37 min in 2 games a week ... wow how will he ever play 4 or 5 games a week ..

The only guy I worry about is Spangler...

I do too but not about being too tired. I worry about the physical wear and tear he goes through in a season and nicks and bumps catching up at some points...

Spangler is who I worry about too. He already looks banged up and slow. Hopefully it's just lingering from the knee bump but I think he already may have some knee issues? He sure has faded the past 2 seasons which is cause for concern.

well at least Coach is calling time outs this year! lol

We also have no off week during conference play this year due to the LSU game on January 30.

Im more worried about no bench production. We have to get more than 3 points or we are not going to get as far as we could come March.

I think it will come in time but, come March, rotations shrink. I think the key is to continue to get good inside minutes from Buford and AK and, to me, Chris James is a huge key on the perimeter. I think he's pressing some and needs to get back to playing like he did earlier in the season.

Oh I get it. Good one!

Yeah, if we had a real coach who called timeouts, we'd have definitely beaten OSU and Memphis. We'd probably be ranked among the top 5 or 10 teams in the country.

If only we had a coach that knew anything about the game. Maybe then we would be 1 win away from being ranked #1 in the Country

Excellent point. I just don't buy this guys are getting tired stuff. These guys are in excellent shape.

When I was a kid I played hockey. We would travel to another city and play four games in two days. I was never tired and I was in no where near the shape of a D-1 basketball player.

Exactly. OU is virtually unbeatable if the bench scores 10-15, especially 15.
