it's gonna be kinda sad but I hafta admit to an evil smirk inside...if only because KU fans have acted smug in response to the "one-trick pony" complaint for years.

I think it has, and I think running their mouths has bitten MU in the #%$

hey, maybe regular season "Border Wars" will continue!!!

[OH THE IRONY]

It will be fun to watch mid major week on ESPN next year. Gonna be some really good games between Kansas, Memphis, Gonzaga, and Western Kentucky.

"one-trick pony" doesn't have anything to do with this. Otherwise, Nebraska wouldn't be going to the Big 10. They are one-trick.
And how do you explain "no-trick pony" Colorado going to the Pac-10.
Or the Big 10 wanting Rutgers. It's about money and how big the population is in your state.

Actually, those would be some great games. Replace Western Kentucky with Butler and you have the makings of a Final Four.
I guess it will beat watching 10pm Pac-16 games on Fox Sports Net with Marques Johnson doing the color. Ugh.

i don't like KU, but KU hoops is a lot more than a "one trick pony". the whole game is TV football revenue and population density. it's total BS to me that football TV rev over-determines the shape of the CBB landscape to such a degree, in principle.

it's not about the game on the court or on the field, it's about selling audiences to advertisers. that's not sport to me.

Exactly. And there are only two schools in the last decade to win a BCS bowl game in football and a national championship in basketball. Kansas is one of them.

KU should join the HVWAC. They could develop a rivalry with The College of New Rochelle. Since they would be playing in the east, they could use it as a recruiting tool.

1. Nebbish are more serious about their minor sports
2. if your one trick is football then it's better anyway because of TV contracts and other secondary incomes

So being a one-trick pony has exceptions outside of Kansas. Gotcha.
What about no-trick pony Colorado going to the Pac-whatever?

Again, only two schools in the last decade have won a national championship and a BCS bowl game. KU & Florida. Next.

You guys weren't a one-trick pony for the 2007-2008 academic school year.

Other then that, KU symbolizes a one-trick pony.

Sorry, but its true.

Exercise equipment! lol At least Reggie Bush held out for appliances. Has anyone else heard the rumor about KU possibly ending up in the WAC? Since KU has a great football program, it would make sense. They have to figure out a way to pay their bills since they will no longer be part of a BCS conference. I think it would be a smart move on the part of Kansas to accept an invitation to the WAC.

Great, but what symbolizes a "one-trick pony"?
Certainly Nebraska is and they are going to the Big 10.
Colorado is a no-trick pony and going to the Pac-whatever.

Duke is a one-trick pony.....I'm just glad like Duke our one-trick is off the hook good.

I'm aware of the other programs you mentioned, but my point to you was that it seemed like you were trying to make KU seem like they are more than a one-trick pony by using that BCS/nat'l champs statistic to justify your belief, when the fact remains that one good year in football doesn't surpass KU's identity as a one-trick pony.

And for the record, there's nothing wrong with being a one-trick pony. Just saying that your statistic you used doesn't change the fact of KU's identity.

In reality there are very few schools across the country that are anything more than a "one-trick pony", if even they are that. KU's one-trick is just at such a high-level, like the other basketball powers....UNC, Duke, Kentucky, Memphis, etc

Absolutely not. My comment was to give perspective of KU in the world of college athletics.

fine cheno. you're right.

I just wonder why, despite all your reasoning, that KU is in the "B" list of schools (or not on the list at all) when the SEC, Big-10, or PAC is discussed as a new conference destination?

Maybe the rest of the sporting world doesn't view KU the same as a Jayhawk fan?
