How does this work? Does some coach just go out and recruit whomever is not in a public or private school? Sounds like an AAU team playing against high schools or do they play in their own league, state tournament?
Seems like this is a worse situation on a HS recruiting level than what goes on with religious and private schools who do this on a regular basis.
Is it any different than those academies that put 10-12 kids in a house and call it a school to play BB?

Well yes and no. "real" homeschool teams play by a set of rules, similar to OSSAA teams here in Okla. NOAH and OKC Storm are the two big ones in OK. they both are non-ossaa, they do play OSSAA teams with large portion of the schedule playing other smaller homeschool teams in Ok.
THey do have somewhat of a league of other home schools, there is a national tournament each year.

They do have rules though, and recruiting does go on, there is a large portion of kids that are homeschooled for lots of different reasons, socially, parents dont trust us teachers, etc....

THere are several schools that do shack up with "foster" parents and play basketball. SOYLA is a tulsa school with all Jamacian players and pretty good ones at that! Not sure if they are part homeschooled or meet in a classroom somewhere...

But its ran by an AAU guy! I dont know a lot about them, but you could guess reading this bio!!!

I predict this will be a hot topic issue by January in the Oklahoma high school basketball community.

Thanks for the feedback. And I certainly have no disrespect for those parents who wish to home school their kids. It's their choice.

I heard OU is looking at one of the Jamaicans on the SOYLA team.

Fayetteville Christian is a private high school recruiting college prospects (either for U of A, John Brown, TCU.) with many of their players coming from Central America or the Bahamas.

They've had three players drafted by the NBA, including Dion Gomez from Panama and the UofA.

I've been told their quarters were top notch and their break room rivaled most country clubs in furnishings and snacks.

Probably not much different than the school the Griffins went to or the Eduardo came through.
