Oklahoma freshman Jelon Hornbeak is going to push for major mins at PG 4 the Sooners. Lon Kruger has things in Norman WAY ahead of schedule.

He has now praised Cousins, Hield and Hornbeak and thinks they will all have an impact this season. Let's hope he is right as that would mean the Sooners will be dramatically better than last season in my opinion.

Amath M'Baye was blowing up twitter about Hield and the other freshmen, "been in the gym 2 hours and still dont want to leave"

Good things are coming guys, be patient! And Jump on Board.

Haven't seen them yet, but love to hear that guards like Cousins and Hornbeak have that type of versatility at the guard spots.

Throw Hield in there as a talented wing scorer, and then Woodard as a pure point after this season, and you have four guards who can do a lot of things and split up time in a three-guard attack if that's the route you want to go.

And they're all young (three sophs/one freshmen) so they'll be here together for a while. Hopefully the Kool-Aid tastes as good as it sounds/looks.

I really hope these kids stick around. Having three talented, experienced senior guards starting 3 years from now is a great way to make a deep tourney run.

I hope all three of these guys are so good that Kruger has to give them minutes.

Just hung up with Oklahoma coach Lon Kruger, whose Sooners could be the sleeper team this year in the Big 12.....

Lon Kruger on Oklahoma "Our depth will be much different. The competition in practice is going to be at another level."

Kruger on Amath M'Baye "He got as much out of the transfer year as anyone I've seen. He's most comfortable in the mid range area."

Kruger on Je'lon Hornbeak + Isaiah Cousins "They're rangy + athletic. They're both going to compete with Sam Grooms at point guard."

Kruger on Steven Pledger "He's a terrific shooter who can also get to the boards. We expect him to have a big year."

Kruger on Buddy Hield "His mentality is to score. He's going to really help us offensively."

Kruger on Andrew Fitzgerald + Romero Osby "Both are huge in terms of leadership. We expect each of them to have great senior years."

Oklahoma addressed their back court in recruiting + have a star on the verge in Amath M'Baye. Sooners should push for an NCAA bid in 2013.

I am as excited as anyone but this is Coach Speak 101 right there, haha.

Haha yep. Didn't even have to call him. He could've just came up with those quotes himself and saved everyone the time.

I think Lon's remarks on M'Baye are telling - in that he has had a bunch of transfers...

I'll got out on a limb and predict that all three of these kids will play as freshmen. How much, will depend on them.

Kruger proved last year that he's not afraid to go with a 10 man rotation, and let each player's performance dictate the number of minutes they receive in the second half and at crunch time. If Hornbeak, Hield and Cousins show they can be trusted to contribute in a meaningful way, their minutes will increase.

Kruger on Amath M'Baye "He got as much out of the transfer year as anyone I've seen. He's most comfortable in the mid range area."

Not to start up this conversation again, but statements like that are why I, myself, would prefer M'Baye to play the 4, and just extend on offense to the perimeter when necessary. I don't like starting guys at the 1-3 positions (unless we're talking a pass first pg), that aren't most comfortable on the perimeter. If you pair a 3 that likes the mid range game, with a 4 and a 5 with limited offensive game, you really clog the paint. Give me guys that can score it from deep, and let M'Baye get his when the floor is spread.

Kruger on Buddy Hield "His mentality is to score. He's going to really help us offensively."

I think this kid is going to be a star in a couple of years.

Kruger on Steven Pledger "He's a terrific shooter who can also get to the boards. We expect him to have a big year."
