How do we not go after another 1 year big?

I love our guards. If buddy stays how do we not go sell out for another Thomas?? ...

Here is one answer. There may not be another Thomas out there, unless he sits out a redshirt season. The transfer rules have changed, virtually eliminating redshirt "waivers" for transfers.

Now if a player has already graduated, then that is your guy. But who is he? Where is he?

Also, how does one "sell out" to get a player? I think the NCAA infractions committee frowns on this.

Please list the available transfers, who are immediately eligible, who are as good as Thomas was, or better than Manyang has the potential to be. Or Buford, for that matter. We are losing a lot, but I think we are replacing it with a lot too. Plus, with guys who will be here more than one year.

I'm not saying we don't have guys who can come in and contribute. I'm saying we have the scholly why waste it? Use it on a one year guy and it'll be available next year just like it is this year. It's a waste.

As for a list I'm not gonna go sort through 300 names of people just to sort out a list. But for one name here ya go.

People who say "we have the players we need" or "Manyang and Dante will do just fine" that's like saying "Oh no I don't need a free $100 I've got $400 right here" take it...it's not hurting you. Hell if someone offers ya a dollar...just take a free dollar.

Again.

Like I said, my comments weren't meant to downplay TaShawn's impact at all. If you'll recall, I said all season that you couldn't measure what he brought to the team in points and rebounds [paraphrasing here]. I also said that I shuddered to think about where we would have been this season without him. I agree, it will be a lot harder to replace him than most people think.

But, that's the way it has been at the end of every season. Last year it was Clark, Neal and Hornbeak. The year before that it was M'Baye, Osby, Fitzgerald, Pledger and Grooms. You get the idea. The points and rebounds, etc. we'll lose with Thomas and now Booker gone will come from somewhere. Of that I'm certain.

Transfers. I'm just saying why not use a FREE scholly on someone. Atleast go sell out for someone. For OU it's a buyers market and they can go try and grab someone that will help the team. And I would go after a one and done. We've replaced a lot of scoring over the years. But tons of that scoring that was replaced came from transfers. Just saying keep it going.

Yeah, I'm waiting on these names too. Guys like that don't grow on trees. Plus, I want to see OU start to develop some of their own recruits.

Link above. Like I said I'm not gonna go sort through hundreds of names. But there are guys out there available to go after and offer a chance to start and be a part of an ALREADY great team. Just. Don't. Waste. A. Free. Scholarship.

And btw I see what all of y'all are saying. I've just always been about using the assets youre given. I don't want to go out and waste the scholly on a "late bloomer" cause 99% of the time those aren't the best turn outs. Many teams don't have open spots this late and we just happen to have one and could use a good opportunity to grab a plug and play player.

Reason: The "hardship transfer waiver" rule was changed by the NCAA this year. There will be no more TaShawn Thomas deals where undergraduates are immediately eligible. They now have to sit out a year (redshirt) unless they have already graduated.

One change in the player's favor is if a player has already used his redshirt year, and transfers to another school, he still has to sit out a year. However, if he needs another year to complete his 4-year participation clock, he can petition for a 6th year. For example, he can redshirt his freshman year, play for 2 years, transfer to another school, redshirt a year, and play for 2 more years.

Now if a player has graduated, he can ask for a waiver and participate at the new school without sitting out a year (e.g. Kendall Thompson QB at Utah xfer from OU). Supposedly, the new school needs to have a degree program not offered at the old school.

Yep I actually like this and that this is the only way. Seems like there are WAY too many transfers for reasons that are ridiculous.
