I know everyone is disappointed - and I am too. But I was wondering about something a little while ago.

Now I realize it's speculation, but how much better would we have been this year if Chelsea Dungee and Nancy Mulkey had stayed?

Would we have won a few more games? Would we be contending for a national championship? :ez-roll: Teasing on that one of course.

But what is your thinking on the question?

I wish we could have given all the playing time we wasted on Mulkry to EJ.

As long as we are playing what if, what would have our season have been like this year if we had gotten Lauren Cox last year?

How many of those early season losses might have been avoided if Maddie had not:

1. had mononucleosis
2. broken a thumb

If Dungee had not been a subordinate, I really think we could have won 4-6 more games, I don't know about Nancy, she would have at least gave us another option in the post.

Subordinate? Confused me.

Roc,

I think you are looking at it much like I do. If Chelsea had been here, I believe Gabbi would have stayed at the point, which would have made us better at moving the ball around, and probably left her point production about the same. We would have had a very strong rotation of Maddie, Ana, Chelsea, & Shaina at guard/wing.

Nancy would have been a better post than last year - and would leave us with experience next year. The loss of those girls has hurt us pretty badly.

There will be a steep learning curve for the freshmen next season because we know 2 of them will be starting and we won’t have a strong inside presence.

Sherri has to go after a juco big, IMHO to help fill the middle.
A failure to do so will be another
sign that she needs to be replaced.

Sybarite, you are a bully. Why do you constantly have to point out things like this? To make yourself feel better about who you are I imagine. You are smart, you are important, and people like you! Now get over yourself!

Back to the topic, I do believe that Dungee would have made a difference. I've thought about that a few times this season. I think Mulkey would have made a difference in a few games as well, especially when we didn't have Vivi and barely lose to South Dakota State, which winning would have really helped us make a case for the tournament. I also think we would have won a couple more games in the Big 12 schedule as well, with her ability to affect shots and defend down low. Dungee simply would have given us another option on the perimeter when one of our girls went cold, instead of settling and trying to get them to play through it. I think we would be looking at at least a 3 game difference on the season, which with 16 games won, would have been the determining factor into the tournament, I believe anyway.

Hopefully we will never be in this predicament again. But, this has happened a few times throughout the SC era, so I'm assuming it will happen again. Maybe there will be more pressure put on this coaching staff when we break that string of making the tournament this year. I don't see us on the projected bracket anywhere I search.

Mulkey?? who cares at this point.

Dungee. That potential scoring punch on the bench or in the starting lineup allowing
Llanusa to be the sixth person off the bench might have made a difference in
some games.

Thank you for your kind words. Now, can you explain what is meant by subordinate in that context. If not, why respond?

I don't understand the word subordinate in this context.

Do you mean if she had stayed and been a starter this year? Or not been coming off the bench last year?

Wow!Some of you are extremely anal retintive about a certian word or comment someone made. The point is yes Mulkey & Dungee would have made a difference, for nothing else a better bench & complete roster(which seems to be evading Sherri more often as of late)These two girls may not have developed as much with this coaching staff, but Sherri & staff thought they were good enough to garner a scholly at the University of Oklahoma. So the answer is yeswe would have been better.Go Sooners!!

Get off it. Rocjunkie is usually quite clear in what he says. He has a reason for what he said, and we have learned to listen to him. We have asked that it be clarified. The intercession of others is of no concern.

Apparently most on here don't understand the reason why Chelsi is no longer a Sooner. The fact is she violated team rules, Sherri was going to put her on suspension during last summer to earn her way back on the team, she said no, and transfered to Arkansas. Violation of rules was her down fall, I probably should have said "insubordination". Did not mean to confuse you all.

My instinct immediately says that Dungee and Mulkey would've helped tremendously, but now I'm thinking about it and it may not be true...

The biggest strength of this year's team is the cohesion and development of the starting 5. That likely would've been setback by having Dungee/Mulkey. Sherri was starting Mulkey over Vivi last year, which I never fully understood -- basically just to win the opening tip? And Gabbi might have stayed at the point, which would've held Shaina's development back. Ana likely would've gotten less minutes as well.

But, point blank, I have to think Dungee and Mulkey would've been more effective off the bench than our current bench production. Who knows if we would've won more, though.

Thank you for clarifying that. I didn't realize there had been an issue in regards to Dungee. I thought she could have made a large impact on this current team.....
Mulkey, hmmmm, think Dungee was the larger loss.

No "sy"I won't get off it!We all have opionions about OU sports and they all differ. That is what keeps OU sites thriving. You in particuler always point out anyone's comment if it doesn't suit your agenda or opionion of Coach Coale. The mediocrity of the women's basketball program is sad to say the least.True fans want the best for all OU sports programs & posting on sites(non miliciously)is a way of showing support for the program.Whether you agree or not.Go Sooners!! :OU-logo:

Chelsea wanted to be a typical college student and party too much. That’s a non-starter for Sherri.
