How Much Better?

Apparently most on here don't understand the reason why Chelsi is no longer a Sooner. The fact is she violated team rules, Sherri was going to put her on suspension during last summer to earn her way back on the team, she said no, and transfered to Arkansas. Violation of rules was her down fall, I probably should have said "insubordination". Did not mean to confuse you all.
Thanks for clarifying that. I had heard a rumor, but had seen nothing that definitive. And, insubordination makes sense in that context.

My instinct immediately says that Dungee and Mulkey would've helped tremendously, but now I'm thinking about it and it may not be true...

The biggest strength of this year's team is the cohesion and development of the starting 5. That likely would've been setback by having Dungee/Mulkey. Sherri was starting Mulkey over Vivi last year, which I never fully understood -- basically just to win the opening tip? And Gabbi might have stayed at the point, which would've held Shaina's development back. Ana likely would've gotten less minutes as well.

But, point blank, I have to think Dungee and Mulkey would've been more effective off the bench than our current bench production. Who knows if we would've won more, though.
Just for this year, both might have helped. But, you are right in that Dungee would have been in Ana's way. I think we might have won a couple more games---this year. Needed Ana and Shaina to develop.

IF Mulkey had tried, she could have had an impact just from standing still. They had trouble shooting over her. She blocked a lot of shots for so little time on the floor. She needed to learn to stay under the basket, try to get a rebound. Do that, and she is very effective as a replacement. You don't have to move a lot at 6-9. Dungee? don't know what the future holds for her.

Got it!

Thanks!

I think it's very clear that that post was meant to say insubordinate instead of subordinate. if you just refer to the context it's pretty clear what was meant. This is why I felt it was unnecessary to point that out. Seen mean spirited only in an attempt to make fun or belittle someone.

Which shows that you don't know the board. I have always regarded rocjunkie highly.

Know the board? Who cares if I "know" the board? I'm just referring to your comment towards this person and how it came off, that's all. I'm just letting you know in case you weren't already aware of how unlikeable you can sometimes come across, that's all. End of discussion on this topic.

Now let's actually discuss something important, such as, do we make the tournament or not? Mulkey 'campaigning' for us is a good sign. If we don't get in and neither does TCU or West Virginia, will this be the least amount of teams from the Big 12 to make it in, ever??

I know everyone is disappointed - and I am too. But I was wondering about something a little while ago.

Now I realize it's speculation, but how much better would we have been this year if Chelsea Dungee and Nancy Mulkey had stayed?

Would we have won a few more games? Would we be contending for a national championship? :ez-roll: Teasing on that one of course.

But what is your thinking on the question?
I think we would be about the same

You know with an 11-7 conference record, and of course the other factors, we probably will get in, by the hair of our chinny-chin-chin. If not, unless the other schools you mentioned don't either, this may be the least amount of teams in a long time, at least in the last 18 years. As long as I can remember it seems we get 4-6 teams in the "Dance" on a regular basis.

Mulkey could have helped because defensively she would have been a better sub for Vivi than EJ.

Based on what we've heard about Dungee, I think she would have been a distraction and bad for team chemistry unless something changed drastically.

So the advantage of one would probably have been canceled out by the disadvantage of the other.

Soonerguy, you got me thinking so I looked up the last NCAA's since 2000 at the qualifier and at large teams from the Big XII. Starting from 2000 to 2017 in order this is the total in the tournament 6-6-7-5-7-6-4-6-8-6-7-7-8-7-6-5-6-6, 2006 was the lowest at 4, pretty solid representation through the rest. I would be shocked if we didn't get minimum 4 teams in this year. Whether it be OU or not. Stranger things have happened.

I'm very interested to see what happens to say the least! I could argue that our conference record is definitely strong enough based on who got in previously, but I could also argue that this year's Big 12 might be one of the weakest years we have had...although I only just started watching around 2006. If we don't make it in, I will also be very intrigued to see if we go NIT and where TCU and WVU end up.

My problem with OU is yes they have the second or third SOS, but few quality wins. Tough schedule, yes, but still 14 losses. It will be interesting to see if the committee favors an 11-7 conference record over the 7 non-conference losses. We will know Monday I guess.

The teams that are the primary competition for OU have no quality games, much less quality wins. There was a lot of aces and spaces this year. Example: one of those Pac 12 teams that should be in the tournament according to Creme is Oregon State. They played two teams in the top fifty and lost to both. Their best win was against Cal Davis.

Cal was another of those Pac12 teams that should make the tournament. They played two games against the top fifty and lost both. Best win over St Marys.

Creme says USC should make it in: one game against a top fifty, and they lost it. Best win was over Purdue.

Most of these teams games were against teams with an rpi of in the 200s.

There is absolutely no way that they should be considered against anyone who played anything resembling a decent schedule. Fifth rated conference who played only weak non-conference teams.
