Hype

Not sure if that was directed toward me or toward TV announcers, but I have no trouble whatsoever distinguishing between the two -- as a college fan, I just don't care very much about NBA potential because I don't care very much about the NBA. When I watch college hoops, I want the announcers to call the game that is happening in front of them, not parrot the preseason hype or blather on about good the guy will be in the NBA.

Amen, sky!

I guess he lived up to the hype. I still have Garza as #1, but no way can this kid be ranked outside of the top 5.

Cade is the leading scorer in the Big 12, a league considered to be the best in the nation.

Big 12 Stats
#1 in scoring
#9 in rebounding
#12 in assists
#11 in blocks
#7 in steals
#1 in minutes played
#6 in FG%
#4 in free throw percentage
#1 best scoring game in the league (40 against OU)

There are stats to go along with the hype... How many freshman average 20 a game in the best league in the country? Not many.... It's kinda ridiculous to suggest that Cade is all hype when he's the best player in the best league, at 18 years old.

If all the Big 12 coaches got to draft current players, all 10 would draft Cade #1. It wouldn't even be considered.

That being said, Garza is having an absurd statistical year... ESPN did a really good article on that today. He's having the best season a big man has had since Shaq in 1991.

It's rather simple to offer a reason as to why people tend to view things the way they do. Case in point. When Trae Young played for Oklahoma the very same things were said by OSU fans. It's all in the uniform as opposed to the player in the uniform.

I never suggested he was "all hype." Read the original post, which went live on January 12. Everything I said, I stand by. Cunningham's improved in the weeks since, but at the time, the hype far exceeded his on-court performance.

Best collegiate player to play in this state since Blake Griffin. Kid can truly do it all.

He’s not only a stud... he’s elevated his teammates as well. That is a very good player.

I've made a living out of belittling any and all things Aggie, but CC is a fantastic basketball player. Everything is easy for him. He is a stud deluxe. I know there are a lot of folks out there who groan when the Aggies get any type of press, but this dude outran the hype train with ease.
