I agree with Fran on Alondes Williams

You're arguing against yourself. Here are the numbers: https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/khadeem-lattin-1.html

Lattin went from being a liability on offense (43% from the field, yuck) to a net positive, while on defense he increased his blocks and steals while decreasing his foul rate. His net rating (offense - defense) increased from +13 to +22 per 100 possessions. PER increased from 12.8 to 17.7. BPM from 6.8 to 10.2.

If you want to argue that Lattin peaked as a sophomore, you could certainly get numbers to back that up.

The original claim was that he was “far better.” I realize I was wrong when I said he didn’t improve “at all” from freshman to sophomore year, but I think “far better” is a reach also. But please, let this topic die. We have beat this dead horse until there is nothing left.

this is close to 100% true he improved a ton year 1 to year 2 which made people think that he would cointinue to improve when in reality he was mostly the same the rest of his career

still much better on D than many gave him credit for

Yep definatly a better defender than most want to admit, and he stopped improving when Hill left. That's the rub. Henson and Hill left and development has decreased since.

I think he was an overrated defender. I saw him get destroyed at home by West Virginia's big men his senior year (Trae's year), he looked completely lost on defense. He was good at one thing, coming from the weak side to block shots. And I've done it again, replied to this thread, AAAARGH.

Okay, I'm letting this topic die now... that was my last reply.

I agree with you 100%. He wasn’t a good “man” defender in the low post. Maybe because he didn’t have enough lead in his britches, he just got bullied by stronger post players..... he needed about 30 more pounds of muscle.

Agreed. He was a good shot blocker, hedge defender, & did well when switched onto guards.

Since that was absolutely, positively your last post on this topic, I can say this with no fear of reprisal:

If you would just tone down some of the hateful rhetoric that's targeted at players (kids) and coaches, these discussions would not be nearly as long or heated.

What have I said that was hateful??? I always just try to tell the truth.

(It was my last reply about the topic of Lattin but if you address me directly I will reply)

Tonight again displayed the trouble with playing Williams in pressure situations. Numerous defensive breakdowns, including a killer non-rotation that led to an and-1 in a three-point game. He's a bad defensive player. He'll be much better next year if he can just raise that up to decent.
