I am a little worried about James Hale

They were having a sale a few weeks, maybe months, ago and I got in for $20 which includes a subscription to ESPN the magazine as well. Well worth the $20 IMO.

Magazines are practically free now. If you sign up and then cancel many will continue to send you the magazine because advertising rates are based on readers (at least that is what I think).

James Hale and OUI have made too many mistakes for too many years to get my money. I like "getting my money's worth", and that is something I never felt happened over there. LOVE my subscription to ESPN. Not only get OU info, but info for ALL sports, at all levels, world wide. Pretty awesome.

You are exactly right on this.

I am a member on Hale's site and think its pretty good. The OU basketball updates recently have been very good. I think its worth the money but probably not for everyone as it is more football oriented than basketball.

I have memberships to both OUI and Sooner Scoop, and I've enjoyed the Scoop more for football than I do OUI.... they aren't as much of a homer. James does a better job getting stuff from practices (probably from Bobby Jack Wright). Josh and Carey don't cover basketball, but they have a basketball board that one of the posters (ctsooner) really does post some good inside information. I wish he posted over here.

I also agree that James Hale has picked up his game on basketball recruiting. He's almost doing as good of a job for the men's team as he does with the women..... he must do color for the women's broadcasts.

you can get an espn mag subscription for next to nothing online ..and with that comes espn insider ie SoonerNation ..

they hired 2 former Newsok guys including Jake Trotter who was an OU beat writer ..

SoonerNation has been great ..

There is a reason you can get ESPN magazine almost for nothing, it sucks. That magazine is terrible.

As far as OUInsider I miss the place. One of the top message boards of all time. To bad James and Brian ruined it and they ruined it.
I'm just glad we have this site and I hang out at Landthieves for the other stuff.

It boggles my mind why any would pay for supposed "insider" info that AT BEST might get you that information about 30 minutes before it can be obtained via twitter and/or a free message board. But hey, to each their own.

I get a lot of information that I wouldn't get for days if I wasn't a member. Some of it may never have come out. MOST of that info isn't OU related, but it still interests me. And it's all in one place. I don't have to "tweet", or go to multiple message boards to find it. I'm not a subscriber to find out 15 minutes earlier about somebody that commits to us in football. I'm a subscriber for the other info I get.

Hey guys:

My name is Dane Beavers and I'm the editor over at ESPN.com's SoonerNation. I'm a longtime lurker, first-time poster at OUHoops.com.

I just wanted to say thanks for the praise for our site in this thread. We really appreciate it. We started the site last September and are seeing a lot of growth. It has taken some time to build our forum readership/dialogue but we expect it will only get better with time.

Anyways, I just wanted to say thanks. Feel free to email me at danebeavers12@gmail.com if you have any questions about our site or the way ESPN Insider works.

Oh, and @DenverSooner, just to clear something up: Our four-person staff is based in Oklahoma. In fact, we are all former employees of The Oklahoman.

Thanks for stopping by, Dane. I really like the work you guys are putting in at SoonerNation on basketball. I know football will always occupy the majority of your page space, but I'm glad see to see you all do some hoops coverage.

Appreciate it. As you all know, the basketball coverage will be cyclical throughout the year based on interest. But we're planning some stuff this summer with former players and we'd like to do Q&As, features, videos, etc.

Dane,

I'm a member of ESPN Insider and a frequent lurker at Sooner Nation. Really enjoyed the pieces so far from you and the staff. In particular, enjoyed that it isn't mostly "rah rah" rubbish like a lot of team oriented sites. The forums are mostly dead...I know you try and stimulate conversation but mostly it falls flat. Definitely need an increase in readership.

Lastly, I still believe this is the premier board for OU hoops discussion and information. Thanks to the owners and contributors of this board.

Thanks so much for the feedback. Our writers are really talented and I'm proud of what we've accomplished so far.

As for the forum, it's something we're working on and we understand that it will take some time to grow and develop the discussion to where we'd like it to be. I wouldn't call the forum "dead" but, yes, we need to improve and we're excited about the future.
