I don't think this is too much to ask...

I want a coach who can win a national championship at OU. I have seen a lot of guys mentioned on this board the last day or two who would NEVER win a national championship here. The list of guys who could get that done is very short, but, those are the ONLY ones I would want to see us interviewing. I see no use in going after guys who would get us back to the top 3 or 4 of the Big 12 every few years and think they have really done something. We deserve better.

If you want to talk about guys like a Larry Brown, Bill Self, Tom Izzo, or Billy Donovan, then you will have my attention. But, please, please, please,...no mention of Kelvin Sampson, Billy Tubbs, Scott Sutton, or anyone else who wants a fat paycheck but could never deliver the goods. Give us a national championship caliber coach or it will become very clear to me that is not the goal for OU basketball. I have never been a guy who is satisfied rooting for the underdog. I much prefer to root for the topdog. I realize that winning a NC is not easy. I don't know of any NC in any sport that is easy. I will be content with a regular showing at the final four until we can win it all. But, I no longer want to have to brag about winning the Big 12 south or making the Sweet Sixteen to feel that we have received a measure of success for the year.

I have been an ardent defender of Capel but enough is enough. I actually feel as bad or worse than when Sampson left us in a bind. I'm ready to see some house cleaning and start over and do it the right way or just don't bother to do it at all.

You can't win a national championship recruiting the way Capel has. Don't care where you are.

The names listed in your post must be from people who don't know many coaches names to even throw out there.

where does Billy Gillespie fit under your criteria?

So let's hear it.
I threw out 4 names. Others could certainly be added but they need to be national championship caliber coaches similar to the ones I listed.

Look, Joe C wanted to get by on the cheap after Kelvin left and that experiment has not worked out. I see zero reasons to go down that path again. If they aren't going to hire a known winner, they might as well just promote Cline and continue to scratch and claw every year to beat the bottom dwellers in the Big 12.

How much money do you think it would take for a national title caliber coach to walk into this ****storm? $3 mill per? $4 mill? $5 mill? Joe C. would probably have to offer $1 to $1.5 mill above market to get one of those guys.

OU needs a coach that will get the program back to respectable and then you can talk about an elite guy.

I would love to be in on the phone conversation when Joe Castiglione asks Bill Self if he wants to interview for the Oklahoma head basketball coaching job. I want to win as much as the next guy, but lets be realistic about who would be interested in the job.

Rick Majerus poops in towels in front of his players. Not sure how anyone couldn't have a strong opinion on him one way or another.

I don't think an elite coach is going to be any cheaper at that point.

Tubby
Kruger
Few
Jay Wright
Pearl

Why aren't those names reasonable if you actually want to win and pay someone.
