If it weren't for bad luck, OU basketball would have no luck at all

I am so sick of bad breaks in the basketball program. Buddy getting injured is just another in a long list of bad breaks dating back 20+ years. Just to name a few:

1. Buddy Hield's toe;
2. Blake's concussion;
3. Q's injury at the final four;
4. J.R. Raymond being dismissed from the team (this is the year Indiana State beat OU in the NCAA Tournament);
5. Humphrey transfers to play the 3 but never does;
6. Bobby Joe Evans knees deteriorate;
7. OU plays KU in K.C. for the national championship.

I just want this program to get some breaks. We had to suffer through Jeff Capel. I had to read the comments from idiotic young OU fans that would say things like he was a young stud coach (that didn't coach offense, defense or instill discipline in his team but otherwise I guess these fans were correct. I was actually banned for a season for simply noting what a horrible coach he was before most people). I had to suffer through TMG, Tiny, and WW. These guys were supposed to make OU great, instead they tore the program apart. I had to listen to OU fans complain about Sampson his entire career for committing the ultimate sin of following Coach Tubbs.

I just want OU basketball to catch a break.

Call me crazy (you wouldn't be wrong), but I think Coach Krug is here to win a title. This is his swan song.

From the perch at the top, all the wrongs will be made right.

I would say Q spraining his ankle is about ten miles above those others. We win it all if that doesn't happen.

OU seems to be snakebit when it comes to the tourney. I remember Wayman spraining his ankle and Patterson getting those three BS fouls against NC. Hopefully our day will come.

Agreed, that was a golden opportunity for a program that doesn't get there very often.

It sucks that Buddy is hurt, but this is our first significant injury of the year, and most teams have to deal with similar things. This is where you find out the character of the rest of the team. Go out and fight like hell for the next few games, get in the dance, and this incident may end up being a turning point that makes this team stronger.

I will say that in the last 2-3 years the OU basketball team has barely had any injuries.

Quit with the poor pity me crap.
Its part of basketball. OU will be fine, this makes others step up and we'll be better for it at the end of the year.

This.

OU has gotten their fair share of breaks over the years, it is just natural to remember the bad ones.

Humphrey transferring wasn't a bad thing. Ask anyone who was involved with that team.

If his attitude wasn't going to change, I agree.

That kid should have just embraced what he was, and Kelvin would have turned him into a monster in the paint.

Funny side note about the Hump transfer. I broke the story on the internet. :) But I did so on April the 1st. The night before I was playing basketball up at TU with some of his old HS teammates, and they let the cat out of the bag. I posted it the next day, and got reamed. A week or so later it game out that he was in fact transferring.

I think playing KU in KC was pretty unfortunate. To have to play a team you have already beaten twice is a tough break in the Tournament. To have to play that team in what is effectively their second home court is a really tough break.

No offense, but I don't remember Wayman ever spraining his ankle or even getting an injury that prevented him from playing? And, he certainly wasn't on that team that played UNC in the 2nd round in 90.

Other tough breaks...Hollis Price's injury in the 03 big 12 tourney which hurt us in the NCAA, and playing Syracuse in Albany in that same tourney to advance to the final 4.

Also, Hollis had the flukey arm injury in the 01 tourney when the opponents tooth was embedded in his arm. Luckily he overcame it, but that cost us that victory over Indiana State.

Anyone that paid attention over the years knew that KU, with the help of Bob Frederick among others, never had a tough road in the tourney. After seeing where OU was we would always check and see what sort of Yellow Brick road KU had been given.

Face it. We beat their asses twice. We should have done it again. After leaving Kemper on saturday after beating a very good 'Zona team there was no way we could lose. But KU had to win to get to the finals too. They played a perfect game. Milt Newton couldn't shoot like that in a dream. And when a player like Manning plays like he did there's not much you can do. Who would have believed that they could run with us like they did?

And I won't even bring up the :ed factor. :woot

I don't know that I would agree with that. KU benefited from Purdue, Pitt and NC State getting upset but that really isn't KU's fault. It is not like the committee knew Murray State would beat NC State or Vandy would beat Pitt. The KSU upset ofPurdue was a 4 v 1 game so that is not a huge upset.

I just think it was very unfortunate to have to play that game in KC.

I can't remember who it was but right before the half he came down on either his ankle wrong or on top of someone else and was hampered in the second half. I didn't say it prevented him from playing. And I never said Wayman played in 1990. Patterson did and he was the one with the fouls.

We have been injury free most of the season. Having 1 starter lose a month or so to injury is par for the course.

Let's just hope the same Dr. who misdiagnosed and did such a poor job treating Austin Johnson's foot issues has long ago been replaced.

When it comes to injuries the men have nothing on the women. I'll take this anyday.

Poor coaching and Nolan Johnson not playing well cost OU that game. OU was up by 13 points in the second half and choked that game away. Kelly Newton probably had his best game in an OU jersey in that one though.

I would add Hollis Price being hurt during the entire NCAA Tournament in 2002 including the final four. Everyone notes Q but Hollis was a shell of himself with his multiple injuries. Injuries that would sideline most humans. He had to almost be carried off the court after beating UIC in the first round.

True. When Q got hurt it changed the entire complexion of the team. Besides losing our PG we lost the engine that drove our defense which in turn drove the offense. I think with him in there Indiana doesn't get all those threes. You have to give Hollis credit. He played hurt a good part of the time.
