Just a few days ago, I thought Maddie might be riding the pine for much of the remainder of the season, but she's played pretty well the last two games and Im happy to see, that for 2 games at least, I was wrong.

Goiya, on the other hand, has regressed to her early season form of mistake after mistake and not being able to hit the ocean from a plane 40 miles offshore.

So, I'm wondering if it is time to go with this starting lineup...

KK -- 5
Maddie -- 4
Sharane -- 3
Peyton -- 2
Ortiz -- 1

Carter 1st off bench
Vivi 2nd off bench.

I just think Maddie is giving the team a much better all-around game.

I know Gioya is struggling but, when she is on she is a lot better than Maddie. Getting Gioya back on track might be as simple as her knocking down a couple of threes and a jump shot or two. The more she sits the longer her struggles will last, IMO. I think Maddie is looking at next year at least before she can average double figures.

All I know is after she lost her starting spot, that is when she focused and came on like gang-busters for about 5-10 games. That hasn't happened now in the last 3rd of the season, at least not more than about once, maybe.

I think I would try it. She can't struggle anymore, in my opinion Norman, than she is already.

I don't necessarily disagree with either one of you, but I think you stay with the horses that got you here. However, I think Sherri is doing a good job of keeping a semi-tight leash on Gioya and moving Maddie in at the right time. We need both of their skill sets and perform to the abilities.

Gioya needs to sit regardless of who plays. Maddie is not a good option, how can we have so many guards and not one that is good enough?

You sit Gioya now and she goes away. She loses whatever confidence she has left. Being sat in pre-conference play versus now is a different story and we really do not have anyone to replace her. Also, she's only had a couple of bad games and she did sit in them, she just hasn't played like she can. And as far as last night, who did play well? Sharane and KK had good games not great. I am not saying Gioya can average 16 points a game because we have other starters scoring now, but she can get back to double figures in every game and she is usually second or third in rebounding without as much time as some. Also, stats aren't everything and she does positive things which don't make the stats.

And, before seeing this thread, I had been thinking about who would replace her. Maddie would be the only option and she just isn't there yet.

I don't know that you want to bench someone at this stage of the season. But, I don't really see the point.

With the exception of Kansas State, for some reason, Maddie is the 1-4 sub. I suspect that this will continue. There may be a short leash on Gioya, Sharane, or Peyton in an attempt to get their attention, but I don't think Maddie starts. We may see her within four minutes.

It's not all about their shooting. Gioya didn't shoot well against Baylor. But, she did other things well. As long as she is doing her thing well, she is valuable. Peyton even broke down against Kansas. I think Gioya will be given an opportunity because she can bring so much if she is on. If not, Maddie can come in quickly.

Maddie doesn't really have to score that much. She does so many unusual things that make her presence on the court valuable. She can block a shot by Nina Davis. She can steal a pass or grab a rebound in a group of tall players. She can make the unusual pass.

The shooting wasn't good against KU. But, we simply weren't doing the little things that enable us to get good shots---or rebounds---or defensive stops. We weren't doing the things well that we did well against Baylor. We didn't shoot great against Baylor.

It wasn't Gioya's fault. She really did well against Baylor. It took a team effortless to lose to KU.

Pretty much.

I really don't disagree with any of you. I understand the theory that benching her now might send her into an even deeper spiral. I just don't know that I agree with it.

I don't think Carter has been as good as Maddie defensively, but they both make silly turnovers and fouls.

I think those of you who mentioned Maddie is probably coming in around the 4-minute gone mark anyway are also probably right.

It probably is a crapshoot to change at this point. I really just wanted to know what everyone thought.

If I were a coach, I'd probably make the change. However, it would be a close, close call.

Onward tonight -- and hopefully upward! I'd hate to finish for my 2-2 prediction to come true. That could really hurt us in the NCAA selections.

Maddie's length does give her a big advantage on defense, well offense too for that matter. She can play for Gioya or Sharane. Sharane seems to have upped her intensity lately so is getting more minutes. Gabbi and Peyton have been needed on the floor since the conference games started and we really don't have a good replacement for K-K, so Maddie's minutes will come from Gioya's until she gets her confidence back. I could be wrong but when she stopped shooting as well and others stepped up, she seemed to go back to the way she played last year. She just does not look confident and when she isn't, she makes silly fouls and hurries her shot. She doesn't even look confident interacting with her teammates. jmo I love her game so whatever is going on with her, I hope she gets it together for tomorrow night and the rest of the season. I also love her personality and, no, don't know her....just a basketball fan thing.

If she starts tonight, I hope she explodes tonight for like 20 or more. We need her conference at a high going into the tournament.
