Is this what the decision it comes down to. You fire the coach and you lose the recruiting class most likely.

At that point it's like a hostage situation...

It's not even that good of a class. 15th-ish (247) with 6 players. Ranked in the 40's if you look at average rating per player.

No. Lon has nothing left. He made terrible assistant hires and it’s been a disaster. Lon hasn’t done a good job the last few years and it’s been a disaster. Lon should retire and the recruiting class shouldn’t stop Joe C from doing his damn job and making a change.

Do we have Blake griffin coming?
Do we have Anthony Davis coming?
Do we have Lebron James coming?

No? Then we shouldn’t hesitate to make a coaching change when it’s so obvious Lon has nothing left to give the OU program.

Absolutely not. We need a culture change and that starts at the top. The sooner the better. If next years class succeeds it will be despite Lon not because of him, just like buddy and cousins.

I hate to say it but it's getting to the point where I hope OU loses so we can get a new coach in here. I haven't felt that way about an OU team since John Blake.

We see identical hires on men's and women's basketball sides: two aging head coaches hire their sons as assistant coaches. The team's success plummets simultaneously. Nepotism is being accepted on both sides by Joe C. It's time for him to step up and do something. If both teams were doing well, I wouldn't mind the nepotism. However, neither team is doing well (and women's basketball is the worst since Coale was hired).

At the end of the day, these coaches are thinking about their sons' careers more than they are their own because it is close to the end for them. It's sad that the players, alumni, and fans have to suffer as a consequence.

The assistant coach hires haven't worked out for us. We haven't recruited well enough and haven't developed the projects that were needed.

It is unlikely Joe is going to fire Lon. The two previous coaches of men's basketball managed to get us in trouble with the NCAA. Lon is as safe as anybody in the country as far as the cheating goes. This is also only a year removed from assistants getting arrested around the country. Joe will be slow to pull the trigger.

I would assume that he just wouldn't rollover his contract as they usually do so when he does pull the trigger we owe him less money.

15th isn’t good huh? Man. What a trash post

Not when we have twice as many players in our class as most of the teams around us do. It's misleading. Clearly you aren't smart enough to pick up on that.

Lon might actually be the WORST coach in the Big 12. Even Boynton at OSU is doing better with his crappy roster than Lon is, comparatively. It is really pathetic. But, Joe C. is too afraid to fire him, so we will be stuck with this awful staff until they decide to leave...kinda sad.

I think Boynton is better too. His teams play smarter and harder.

he’s not going anywhere because of joe c, and i am guessing the budget factors in to it as well right now.

that said, gallogy went to joe and had a nice chat during a timeout late in the second half, and it was definitely basketball related. i’m sure it was nothing, but interesting nonetheless.

Wasn't just about everyone on here was in agreement that Lon was hired to clean up the program..Maybe once is a while make a deep run in the tourney? Most of us knew Lon was not going to win it all here..not sure any coach could right now. But if for some far fetched way Lon is let go..I'm fine with it..Or if he stays. Lon may decide he's had enough and take another job or retire..I'm fine with that too

Boynton, Beard, Henson, Weber, the North Texas guy, the Norman Junior High B-team coach, etc. Reasonable people can disagree on whether Lon is going to be the man to turn this around, but some of the takes on here are so silly they are hard to take seriously. Boytnon, for example. Two years at OSU, no tourney in bids, tons of roster turmoil, and let's not forget, he inherited a team coming off a tourney appearance. I'm sure all of you would be thrilled with that production from an OU coach.

Insults. 👍🏼 Again, another trash post.

Did I see someone post on here yesterday that OU has the worst conference record in the league over 3 years.

Imagine if Lincoln Riley lost more big 12 games than any other coach over a three year period. 0% chance he survives.

Clean up the program AND keep us at a respectable level of play. I don't consider what happened 2 years ago, what happened last year to a lesser extent, and what is likely to happen this year (miss the Dance) as "respectable."

But maybe that's just me.

It is not just you.

Wow. You guys are awesome! Lol

Do you ever play cards/poker with friends? If so, do you talk about a whole range of topics often talking off the top of your head while you steadily deplete them of their chips? The people here are doing the same thing. We have always lived in a "what if" world and there will be nothing to change that one iota.
