Is This Rock Bottom For the Program?

Why can’t people have JUST A LITTLE PERSPECTIVE for a minute. Our record is 16-7 and we get constant posts like this. Mizzou has a record of 17-6 and their fans are thrilled!

One game difference - or maybe just one more basket against Texas A&M?! Let’s see how it all plays out before deciding how awful everything is

Right perspective. This is year four and we’re beginning our slow descent out of the tournament. This isn’t year one or two. We ALL know how this plays out. That’s why most of us are upset. Because it’s almost carbon copy of the last eight years but this time we miss the tournament instead of squeaking in.

Perspective? Like Missouri being 21 spots ahead of us in the NET? Like their third-year coach getting ready to take his team to its second tourney in those three years? Like them being in position to be a 5-or-6 seed while we will need to pull off at least one upset to even make the tournament? Like them doing this one year after going 0-19, while folks like you still make excuse after excuse for why Moser still hasn't gotten us to the tournament? But sure, lets pretend this is just about a one-basket difference against A&M rather than four years, or the fact we have lost by an average of 25 points against the three best teams we have played (and we still have to deal with Florida).

Big picture my friend. This is going to the 10th straight year we don’t finish above .500 in conference? Is that right? I can’t recall if we snuck one out in there somewhere but I think it’s close. That’s the point here… this is a decade-long fall that precedes Moser; but yes, trending for a fourth straight year outside of the Tournament is especially bad.

And while I will still root for them to win enough games to get in, and while getting in would probably give Moser another year—- I’m just not sure it matters all that much when discussing the macro level view here.

You can't look at record, you have to view it as what criteria is the committee continuously valuing. The SEC right now is predicted to get 12-13 teams in, probably honestly 12 unless theres almost zero bid stealers and a weak bubble continues. But for PERSPECTIVE Missouri is 21st in the AP poll, 24 in KP, 14 in BTOR, 23 in SOR, and 23 in Net rating. Oklahoma is unranked, 36 in KP, 47 in BTOR, 31 in SOR, and 44 in net rating. That's a massively a bigger difference than just 1 win or loss.

Next if that 13 number holds, Missouri is currently 7th in the SEC, Oklahoma is 13th, a full 3 games behind them in conference standings, and yes that matters to the committee.

We finished 9-8 in 2021. Not saying one year barely above .500 is great, but we did manage that in Lon's last season.

That year will go down as one the most disappointing years for sure. Top 10 in late January and then bubble team by March.

BUT, if only OU hired a coach who could build off that success instead of going backwards.

It was frustrating, to be sure, although we made the field with room to spare. AR missed a game or two because of COVID right when we had things rolling, and I think that was also the year that Manek missed time, and Harmon missed the tourney due to COVID. But lots of teams dealt with that stuff, so no excuses. That stretch where we lost twice to OSU and once to Texas was torture. That team definitely should have managed to go something like 11-6, which would have put them in line for a much better seed and possibly set them up for a Sweet 16 run.

I love how you guys ALL KNOW 😂 how this will “all turn out”! What a joke.

Please also tell me what hot stock to buy since you see the future so clearly. Must be hard to live in a negative world all the time.

Was that the year Harkless hit that fadeaway in the lane to beat Alabama? That was a semi-fun year.

If the softball team doesn't win a natty, our fan base will be beside themselves.
Sorry, but this is a huge overstatement. I follow the softball team closely, reading posts from fans on many boards and platforms, and I haven't encountered a single fan who expects a championship this season; they're not ruling it out, but expecting it? Nope. The vast majority of OU softball fans know full well that this team is full of new, young players and I've seen post after post saying it'll be fun to watch them grow and improve over the course of the season. In short, I think OU softball fans have very realistic expectations for this team.

If they were to struggle in conference play to the extent that they, say, ended up in the middle of the SEC pack or lower, there'd be disappointment and frustration, sure, but "beside themselves" if they don't win a national title? Hardly. It may be a difference between fans of women's sports and men's--I'm not sure--but I don't sense a feeling of entitlement among softball fans at all. They've thoroughly enjoyed the team's success over the last 25 years, but they understand the new challenges the team faces each year.

Last season, for example, OU didn't win the Big 12 (they won the conference tourney, but not the regular season title). The team wasn't as dominant as the previous season's squad, but there was no panic or outrage. And if they hadn't won the national title, there would have been no meltdown.

So how much are you putting on us to make the tourney since you are so confident? The difference between us and you is that we have four years of evidence to support us. Our wonderful conference record under CW speaks for itself.

Well I certainly can’t tell you what stock to buy but I can pretty confidently advise you not to put any money on the Sooners going forward.

i am far from a doom and gloomer .. (heck i'm sure some see me as a sunshine pumper)

the losses to bama / auburn / tennessee .. are fine (even as blowouts ) in a vacuum ...

but in the context of the UGA game (even if i think we got a little jobbed by the refs) the texas game (no show first half) and the blown lead vs tamu ..

the overall trend is not good .... (to say the least) ..

and this is simply not good enough ..

I try to be fairly objective myself and take a step back when viewing things. After all it is never as bad, nor as good as it seems. But this is year 4 of inconsistency across the board for play style, roster retention, and even how the team performs game to game.

I am by no means wishing Moser to fail, but I’ve accepted that it is likely time to move on and give someone else a chance to make this work. There are plenty of up and comers hungry enough to give this job a shot. It feels like this relationship has run its course

Yes, a lot of it to me comes down to how we play. If we go out and play hard and compete and just come up short because the other team is better then you accept that to a point.

But to be non-competitive and obviously so badly coached is just a deal breaker for me.

Picking up on this and using the Missouri analogy that was thrown out, they have lost one game (at Auburn) by more than eight points. They have one of the best wins of any team this season (AT Florida), and went to Tennessee last week and led much of the game before losing by four to the same team that curb stomped us in Norman. And unlike us, the toughest part of their schedule is behind them -- they only have two remaining games against ranked teams. That 17-6 is miles ahead of our 16-7, which is precisely what the metrics and rankings show.

when you've seen the movie 3 times.....you have a pretty good idea how it will end the fourth time...
