Is Trae one-and-done?

He’s not a lotto pic this season no matter what his scoring average is this season.

Stephen Curry ( since everyone wants to compare them ) is taller/longer and didn’t leave until his junior year.

I think young stays for two years and even then depending on draft may not be a lotto pic .
It is a long season so nobody knows. Young is about the same as Fultz, Smith, and Fox. Seth Curry was drafted in a different era.

Trae can get an insurance policy like many others to protect his 1st round status and return for another year. So he is not risking lifetime security.

If he gets a lottery grade at the end of this year, I think he should go. If it's a mid to late grade it gives him the choice to come back, be a Wooden contender, high lottery, large endorsements mega star. He might even help grab a one and done type late signing for the deep run in 19...
...It's good to be the King!

2. Your point was "all anyone cares about is money," implying that TY would go pro b/c he's just like everyone else.

no. First of all I know the definition of diatribe. I was the one who used the word and used it properly.

second - I wasnt "implying" anything about Trae. In fact, when questioned about the issue by Ada I more specifically stated that I wasn't talking about him in particular. I was saying that the entire debate (by everyone) only focuses on the money and that saddens me a bit. Makes it seem like no one gives import to the experiences of playing in college.

Mayor: never seen a rich man who didn't have a guilty conscience

Wyatt Earp: I already got a guilty conscience....might as well have the money too.

Maybe Trae's goal is playing in the NBA because he wants to play with and against the best players in the world. It's a matter of seeing how he fares. It's about competition. Most people want to be the best at what they do. It burns inside of them. OU could be a stepping stone to attaining that goal.

10 years ago when I was 62, I was an open level racquetball player but I didn't play tournaments because I didn't want to travel. It still got around that our club had a decent senior player. Soon 2 players scheduled to come play with me. One was the Texas 60-65 state champion, and the other was ranked as the #5 senior player in the nation. I beat the Texas champ, and split with the national player. I just loved that kind of competition win or lose. I craved it. I've always told my wife I would rather lose a game 15-14 knowing I played well, instead of winning a game 15-0 where I wasn't pushed. I'm just saying Trae may want to compete against the best. If he does, and he has an opportunity to get there, I don't blame him if he goes.... and money isn't necessarily the driver.

Sure, the money is good. Being a first round draft choice gives a player a guarantee of a 3-year contract. Most NBA second round picks don't make the team and end up playing in the D league or overseas. Heck, I hope he comes back to OU for at least another year but I understand if he doesn't. It's really too early to think about it, but 2 months from now he might be faced with a decision if he plays well against tough Big 12 competition and gets a high draft grade.

He's more likely to be the #1 pick than not be a lottery pick, assuming he stays healthy.

Trae has any hope of being a #1 pick this year -- or probably any other year. Those picks are reserved for freak athletes who are also good players or for bigs. Michael Porter, Deandre Ayton, Bagwell, Bamba from Texas. Lottery, absolutely, but 0 chance of being #1 pick (I hope I have to eat those words).

His height is always going to be a consideration.

6-3 is pretty tall for PG in the NBA.

I agree but my point was if he stays healthy, the probability that he goes in the lottery is 1. He is better than deangelo Russell and Russell went top 2. Anyone who drafts porter, ayton, Bamba over trae will be sorry.

He’s more likely not be drafted then be the number 1 pick in the draft.

He could be here 4 years average 35 points a game as a sr and he’s not going to be taken #1 overall .

There are really only 2 PGs that I would say will definitely get drafted ahead of him (Doncic & Duval), Sexton would be a toss up but I don't see him as a PG. If Young keeps this up with a weaker than normal draft class for PGs then I could see him sneaking into the lotto. But last year a lot of teams feel they drafted their PG of the future, so there are a lot of factors that need to be sorted out before I even start thinking about his 1 and done or draft position.

The game is changing. Analytics show that a point guard who can score is the most valuable player. Big guys are not as valuable as they once were.

Trae is the next steph curry. No one wants to be the team that drafted a guy like bamba over an all time great.

The game may be changing but humans aren’t .undesized guards are a dime a dozen, 6’9 athletes who can do everything aren’t .

You could draft a flop at any position ,but there ALOT more undersized guards to miss on then elite big men.

We are talking about Trae young, not some run of the mill college guard. He has enough size for a point guard and he's the best scorer I've seen at his position since curry.

He's here 2 or 3 years.

Hope you're right but I don't see it. He is going to average 30 per game and be top 10 in assists. He looks like he is going against high school players still. He's one and done unless he just loves playing for ou.

He’s isnt going to average 30 points a game ,he will be lucky to average 20 when conference starts .

You saw against Arkansas what will happen when players body him up and play physical .
He’s great for freshman ,but let’s tap the brakes on giving him the curry status 5 games into his young career .
