It's official: Stephen Clark staying in high school

Re: It's official: Stephen Clark staying at Douglass

I realize this is a smart kid but it seems silly to me that a 16-17 would consider leaving high school a year early to attend college even if he is physically ready to play in college. Also, it seems that he is running the household as opposed to his parents. I may be reading more that what's being said but this is all pretty inadvisable IMO. I truly hopes he joins the Sooners in Norman!

Now I grew up with a bit of a non-traditional family unit so to speak, but for the people on this board that do/did, did you "advise" your mom of what you were going to do when you were 16?

I realize that this is a different day and time. But giving my mom "advice" was never more than a fleeting thought when I was that age.

Having said that, though, Stevie impresses me as a young man who is very respectful of his mother and the adults close to him. I doubt if he really "told her" what he was going to do. I'm betting that she has a lot of input into the important decision he makes, which is why I have always felt that recruiting Dorshell Clark is just as important as recruiting her sons.

When your kids make the right decision you let them think it was their idea.

I don't have children so I am the last person that should criticize someone's parenting skills and similarly I am probably not very qualified to compliment them either. With that said, I think Clark has an excellent family. His mom is raising a straight A student, that is arguably (if not absolutely) the best basketball player in the State. He takes AP courses and has already done enough work to graduate high school. Obviously based on my disclaimer I am not qualified to say much on this comment but if I had a kid I would hope I could do half as good a job as Stevie Clark's mom has done.

A why .. if he is ready grade wise and is mature .. going to college early is not a bad thing ...

and second .. he is staying in high school another year .. maybe NOT at Douglass
