This 2015 version of Sooner Football got a big boost of confidence on Saturday. Although West Virginia isn't a great team, they do have some NFL talent and will likely finish in the upper division of the Big 12 this year. That was a good win, but there are still serious improvements that need to be made moving forward:
  • penalties
  • O-line run blocking - although I believe the ceiling for this team regarding run blocking just isn't very high. They simply are not all that talented up front.
  • Secondary communication - they are improving (having J. Thomas back certainly helped), but there are still too many breakdowns and issues that need to get resolved before Tech, TCU, and Baylor.

Texas appears, on the surface, to be a total dumpster fire. Texas does have talent, but it is young, inexperienced, and not cohesive at the moment. The most important factor for OU regarding Saturday's game is to jump out to a lead. Texas has little to no confidence and if you jump out to an early lead, say 17-0, I think the horns will roll over.

And despite how often we hear the addage "you can throw the record books out when you play the RRR"....that really isn't the case at all. With very few notable exceptions, the data and evidence overwhelmingly point out that the better team almost always wins this game....and in many cases when there is a significant talent gap, the game is usually a blowout.
