Jamal to transfer

This one is a shocker. I’d be surprised if it was about playing time, he was given plenty. If he was worried about making a switch to the wing or competition that would be disappointing, I doubt this is the reason. He was a solid Big12 player with 2 more years, definitely hurts the team.

Might need two grad transfers now. Does OU have a junior-to-be on the roster?

JMO, JB & Harmon have the same strengths & weaknesses. I feel JB has/had the biggest upside because of his length. Not happy to here this! Hard to build a good team when good players leave without replacements

There's one possible explanation that no one has mentioned:

Perhaps Jamal was a regular reader of this board. ;)

Wow. This is shocking. JB is a great kid and I never would’ve thought he’d be the one to leave. This seems like it’s out of nowhere.

I thought JB did a lot of things well, but he struggles shooting. He’s shown flashes and I expected him to keep getting better. Unless there’s some big time player coming, losing him doesn’t make us better.

Something I can’t get to terms with. If the coaching staff was really shocked about this, then why offer so many grad transfer point guards? I know Williams was the rumor but he’s a wing. Harmon & JB would’ve been at OU for 3 & 2 more years, why go after another? Also the recruiting over JB doesn’t make sense because he would’ve been one of the better bench guards in the conference if you move him to the bench. If you wanted to recruit over him it would’ve been at the wing position.

We better find a point guard and fast. I don't believe next years starter is on the roster currently. DH is not the answer. Does not penetrate or distribute. Just look at last years assist numbers. Also he only goes left. Never seen him go right or even pass much to his right. However if we find a grad transfer wing I could see going with Reaves at the point to make the fit work.

Reaves at point guard? Nope

This may open the door a little more for guys like Trey Wertz or Umoja Gibson.

Boulder will back me. No one saw this coming.

He was not shown the door.

The problem is you all think you have ALL the info and the most accurate info.

I don't care who your source is, there are things LK and assistant coaches aren't going to let out.

I refuse to believe that less than THREE DAYS JB notified the staff and made it public. You posted on the 7th that we weren't expecting any more transfers. It was announced early on the 10th he was leaving. TWO days. TWO days to notify the staff, either give the staff or not give the staff to talk him out of it, and for it to be made public. That is a FAST timetable, and one I don't believe.

If Williams isn't leaving, we are recruiting way too many transfer guards for the staff to not have known this might have been a possibility. Regardless of whether they were letting that leak out via your "source" or not.

He was absolutely not shown the door. But look for some good news in
the next 2 weeks

Way too harsh on Harmon.... True freshman, not going to be a phenom, but with some minor improvements in a few areas will be just fine. Very good player.

  • He needs to be able to get his shot off faster
  • Work on passing when he gets in the lane
  • Work on not flailing into the camera row every time he drives

Agreed on all and those are all things that most elite players can get away with in high school. If he’s willing to put in the work I think he’s going to be a really good player. I did think he’d be able to get by his man easier than he does.
