Jay Wright on Cousins

Don't think that's exactly bulletin board materials. He didn't recruit Isiaiah, not like he can lie and say he did. Bill Self has admitted the same with Buddy. He was in his back yard and probably would have gotten him he'd gone after him, he just didn't realize he woudl become even half the player he did.

I've read more than once that Self DID recruit Buddy, is that not correct? In any case, he's certainly lavished praise on Buddy and said he wished he had come to KU.

Isaiah Cousins was not a top 200 recruit nationally. That means most programs passed on him. Perhaps Jay Wright could have worded it a bit differently, but this doesn't even register on the "bulletin board" radar. It just shows once again how well Coach Kruger can spot and develop talent.

I would've kicked the ball at K-State, too. Only much higher and farther.

I like 'rough around the edges' players. We need more. Spangler is no boy scout.

We were down 3 when he kicked the ball. We had a big chance to win at that point but after the kick we were down 7, game over.

I like players rough around the edges too, especially on defense. Like I said, I'm glad he's on our team.

It was a horrible call on a great play by Isaiah but seniors should no better. But there was no shot at winning after the foul so the T didn't hurt. Maybe Wright is trying to get in his head because he thinks he can put him off his game.

It was 72-65 when the personal foul got called on Cousins, after which he kicked the ball, so it likely would have been 73- or even 74-65 with 1:05 remaining even if Isaiah hadn't lost his cool.

Yeah, you are right. My bad. Probably didn't have a chance to win at that point but you never know. We all remember the Northern Iowa -- aTm game.

Well, based on that game, we still could have won, even figuring in the free throws after the technical.

He did recruit him, he just didn't offer him a scholarship.

Regardless, this was a coach stating a fact. He is under no obligation to heap praise on the kid, or even talk about him. He didn't recruit him, he said as much, and there's not much to be said. They signed Arcidiacono as their PG in that class, I'm sure Wright is okay with how it turned out.

And maybe he'll still be okay with it after Saturday night. ;)

I'm guessing both team's fan bases are quite pleased with how it all worked out.

You realize I'm messing with you, right? Got to get myself in the right frame of mind for Saturday.

I listened to Wright.

The rest of the quote was, "I wish we would've recruited him. He lit us up in Hawaii".

Hardly bulletin material.

Wright on Cousins:

"Cousins lit us up in Hawaii, it hurt, NY kid, I knew of him. It hurts to miss those guys".

Thanks. Glad you found that.

well, he would have actually had to COACH him...lol.

sorry, yeah a blind slam to Self...who rolls out McD AA and gets "COY"...(see other thread)

I figured it was something like that. Everything I've ever heard about Wright is that he is first-class. I figured it was probably his way of acknowledging a mistake he made 4 years ago.

Nothing to see here.

They've been giving us quite a bit of bulletin board material.

The team has goals and it's the Final Four. If player(s) need statements by others to provide them with drive then they should not bother playing the game.
