Jeff capel= nba players

Keep giving me NBA talent...

What happened this year was unusual and just plain unlucky...you are gonna get bad apples from time to time we just happened to get a collection of them...

Every team is a mix of different personalities and no matter the talent can be hard to get on the same page...It is the coaches job to do that, which i think Capel failed to do this year...I love Capel, but he just didnt get the job done...

I am more of an optimistic though and believe coach can get it done with the kind of players he attracts and recruits...hopefully he will prove me wrong...that is, if we can get those types of guys anymore...

I believe this is probably true. Whatever it was, it led to a complete lack of team chemistry. Even UNC had what has to be considered a totally off year for what may be the same reasons and we can't argue with the results their coach usually gets.

I think Jeff Capel is a young coach learning some hard lessons. He can judge basketball and athletic talent, but he needs to sharpen his skills on evaluating character and personalities , both in players he recruits and coaches he hires.

If he can't improve in that area, then he will not be a head coach much longer.
Bingo! Thank you.

I will take Kelvin Sampson consistently putting together really good college teams, winning 4 big 12 championships, advancing to the final four, and taking OU to 10 or 11 straight NCAA appearances than putting some clowns in the NBA and only going to the dance 50% of the time.

I agree. It is an either or. I'll take 5-6 every day of the week over the rubbish that went on last season. It is time to throw the baby out with the bath water. After all, OU is a football school.

Uh, bigabd Felton Jeffery Capel's college coaching career is not over. Your boy k sampson's college career is pretty much over. Mark it down. BOOMER SOONER BABY!!!:jcapel

Nobody cares about NBA players when you suck.

That's not an option because Mr. Sampson is banned from coaching ncaa basketball for the foreseeable future.

Lmao, some of yall act like we got rid of Sampson...HE LEFT OU on his own accord. The Sooner you realize this, the Sooner you can get over it.

I feel confident that you have misunderstood abd's point.

I'm not saying that Capel doesn't need to recruit NBA players. We just need to get guys that will play in the NBA years from now and worry only about the college level.

Yep, he did.

Figured as much.

The truth is, no fan (at least none that I can recall--I stand ready to be corrected) has expressed a wish to have Sampson back. That ship has long since sailed.

But we might well harbor the hope that our current and future coaches can instill in their teams some of the grit, the heart, the fire, and the hustle Sampson's teams exhibited.

Expressing that sentiment is not remotely the same as wishing Sampson would return.

Sort of like they did the year before last on their way to the Elite Eight?

Yep, he did.

It's not my fault you didn't express your point very well. You said " I will take Kelvin Sampson consistently putting together really good teams..."

That sounds to me like you wish Sampson was back...

It is easy to develop a selective memory when things are in the past..

When Sampson was here, a very large number of Sooner fans hated his "pass the ball around the 3-point line until the shot clock runs down to 3 seconds before jacking up a contested 3" offense.

How about the 10-15 minute long FG droughts that were strikingly consistent?

Sampson laid plenty of eggs when he had a far superior team in terms of talent, too (see: Manhattan and Wisc-Milwaukee for starters.)

To think that Sampson could not have lost a team like Capel had last season is ludicrous (see: Bookout, Taj, and TE's last season.)

He went the same route Capel did after his success in the tourney and landed top talent with Drew and Lawrence, Foust, Humphrey (earlier, but still valid) but every1 of them hated playing for him and left. He then learned that prima donnas would not survive his system so he went all JuCo, all the time.

Do you not think Capel will learn from his mistakes last season? I would wager that, if given the opportunity, Capel will make sure not to recruit anymore players who have 0 ambitions to go to college.

Sure Sampson did consistently well in the Big12, but Capel was a fluke injury away from doing something KS never did with a Big12 regular season title in only his 3rd season! Correction: KS split the reg. season title w/ KU 1 time.

Something to also consider, Sampson chose superstar Jimmy Tobias over that big guy ?Lawrence something? (whose name escapes me) who transferred out from Baylor to Mississippi St. when Patrick Dennehy was murdered.

Or how about that brilliant move to not take Joey Graham cuz his brother Stevie was 'not good enough' (both are still in the NBA. I believe). Capel is a better talent evaluator, in my opinion, and as Faithful said the proof is in the NBA draft.

The funny thing is I know KS and his son on a friendly level, so I always backed him up and still do. He just was far from the god some of yall like to imagine he was, yknow, the same peeps that always held Tubbs in a rarer air than KS, despite awesome results on the court.

You see Sky I agree with that whole heartedly. If our teams don't start displaying this. I will be the first one to say Coach Capel has to go. I just think they will though starting next year with a team coming in that's supposed to do nothing. BOOMER SOONER BABY!!!

Best, most informed post that I have read on here in a while.

:clap

How can anyone say Capel is better at evaluating talent. You really want to go down the road of how many of his players have basically quit? And I'm not even going to throw in the guys that went pro early.

Also anyone that watched Gallon or Mason-Griffin can't possibly believe they are NBA talents. I don't see how either one can make the NBA at this time. Sure Gallon got drafted but I don't see how he can make the NBA right now. Both may have been first round picks 10 years ago. But right now they have no shot.

One of the reasons this board was founded was that the people who created it wanted to get away from the continual Sampson/Tubbs and Sampson/Capel wars. The discussion in this thread has devolved into the same tired arguments. If it continues in that direction, the thread will be locked.

Can I just request a "lock"?

Tubbs was fired, Sampson quit. Neither have any bearing whatsoever on Jeff Capel...except the fact that Jeff Capel hired Kelvin's son to work for him.

Yep I think these arguments get old. But I'm looking at Capel's actual results and I want to see why people say he's getting better talent, and is recruiting better. Last years roster with only one guy recruited by the Kelvin(Tony Crocker) was the least talented team we've had. That's a disconnect.

Yes, this is a disconnect.
