Jeff capel= nba players

Sort of like they did the year before last on their way to the Elite Eight?

Absolutely. But the key is to get that kind of effort and heart out of your team year in and year out, as Sampson did (with rare exceptions) -- to get our future teams, whatever the level of talent might be in a given season, to reach their full potential.

Me, I want to see scrappier defense this upcoming season than we've yet seen out of a Capel team at OU. If next year's team plays hard-nosed defense while also working hard on the offensive end, I'll be a happy man.

Especially if we do it the year after that and the year after that.

Me too.

But last season, for a multitude of reasons that I cannot ascribe to the effort of the coach, that just didn't happen.

Kelvin (who I L-O-V-E-D) had the same problem with a team or two, the most comparable being the 2004 [I think] team, which had MANY of the same issues that this one last season did. No coach is immune to yahoos, it is what you learn from it that matters.

The 04 team won 20 games and they had a ton more injuries. I think they had 6 guys able to play at the end of the season. Alexander had to be a post player. You can't compare last year to any OU team ever. That was just a complete mess.

"Hi, I'm NickZepp! I make opinionated posts that say others' opinions are inferior. What do I back it up with, you ask? Yep, you guessed it...more of my own opinionated drivel."

When did Capel become a better talent evaluator? Sampson was well known for finding diamonds in the rough.

Capel landed Blake in his own backyard with family on the team, which allowed him to land Willie, which allowed him to get Tiny and TMG. Thats not my take on it, thats how Capel described getting those types of guys. I can find the quote somewhere if that becomes an issue.....

On that note, Willie, Tiny, and TMG have major maturity and "team player" issues and none were very good for the OU program. Willie had a good freshman season playing off Blake and Taylor, but other than that those guys did more harm than good. Why are we giving Capel credit for bringing guys in that weren't good for the program? Those clowns won 13 games and delivered the worst season in 40 years. They got blown out all season. They weren't even competitive.

How can anyone say Capel is better at evaluating talent. You really want to go down the road of how many of his players have basically quit? And I'm not even going to throw in the guys that went pro early.

Also anyone that watched Gallon or Mason-Griffin can't possibly believe they are NBA talents. I don't see how either one can make the NBA at this time. Sure Gallon got drafted but I don't see how he can make the NBA right now. Both may have been first round picks 10 years ago. But right now they have no shot.

Gallon was drafted to the NBA by guys whose jobs rely on talent evals. You are just a fan who has a slant that you force feed down people's mouths, and you do it for free.

Seriously, the audacity of you..To say that Tiny does not have NBA talent when he was just drafted to the NBA is borderline psychotic.

I'm no moderator, but I would say this thread deserves to be locked more for the tone of some of the posters than the coach-vs.-coach points being made.

As for the NBA-level talent of this player or that, I don't much care. I wish all players who represent the university and its fans with class and dignity while they're in Norman the very best in whatever their post-college pursuits may be. But I care far more about what those fortunate few achieve while they're in Norman than in the NBA. Tiny and WW could go on to be twelve-time All-Stars at the next level, and they'd still rank miles below Hollis Price (to name just one) in my esteem.

I want someone that can recruit and coach offense and defense.
I want Kelvin Capel.

Izzo seemed like he would leave Michigan St, maybe we can get him to OU ?
