Every coach we hire is going to have ties to somewhere. So Moser having ties to Chicago is no better than Coach A having ties to the East Coast. Or Coach B having ties to the West Coast. Or Coach C having ties to the SE.

I never said OU HAD to get a guy with ties to this part of the country. I just said he isn't bringing Chicago talent with him. That is silly. Every coach that comes to OU recruits SIGNIFICANTLY from this part of the country. Check the list of great OU basketball players. I bet 90% of them are from Oklahoma or a state that touches Oklahoma. The others were probably transfers under Tubbs or Sampson. You aren't talking about recruiting great players from Chicago? Then why does it matter, as OU can recruit non-great players from close to home, so that isn't an "advantage" that Moser would be bringing.

Why do we think Moser is a great coach or a great fit here? He has only won 55% of his games as a head coach and has no ties to this region afaik.

IMO, if we are wanting an established coach go after Altman or Beilein.

I'd rather have McCasland or Mills than Moser.

But the most exciting names are Najera and Kellen.

he coached at a&m and arkansas little rock.

I don’t want porter.

2 good runs. Running an offense that won’t work in the big 12 after year 1.

Can you please expand, Coach? Why wouldn’t his offense work in the big 12? It has been working pretty well in the tournament against other p5s. I would be worried about his ability to recruit but I think his coaching/player development would be about as good as we could hope for.

I doubt OU can get Moser, but that guy is a helluva coach, to get Loyola to a final 4 and sweet 16 in the last 3 tourneys is incredible, those guys have a shoestring budget for recruiting and not even close to the resources power 5 schools have.

To me, hiring Moser would be akin to hiring Army's football coach. He makes the option game work for him because these days, it's a gimmick offense, one their opponents almost never encounter. So he gets his guys to execute nearly flawlessly, beats the teams at Army's level and puts a scare into a few Power 5 teams.

But put that same coach in a Power 5 conference, and that approach wouldn't work (and he'd likely struggle to attract Power 5 level talent while running that offense).

GT would probably like Paul Johnson back.

Porter Moser-
Fired at Illinois State (51-65).
At Loyola:
With Cameron Krutwig: 99-35.
Without Krutwig: 89-105.

I’d rather have kellen Sampson. Or Eduardo Najera and a new arena.

Krutwig is not worthy to even eat off of Blake or Buddy's jockstrap.

Lol. They could get him if they want him. He’s barely above .500 for his career.

So recruiting better players produced more wins?

I think the way it works is, people complain if you don’t recruit good players, but when you win with good players, they say you only win because you had good talent. And act like the coach shouldn’t get credit for developing those players. At least that’s how it worked with Lon.

He's been linked to some pretty good jobs, though I'm not sure how strong of a contender he was for Indiana and Marquette.

Mark Few did about as much to develop our bigs as Lon.

Yea and I guess if people want to fixate on that while ignoring what he did with the guards, that’s their right. I just wish people could identity all the coaches who have no weaknesses and are great at everything.

Plus he makes like only $1.2MM at Loyola. Joe C could nearly double his pay and still save close to a million bucks from last year.

Outside of this recent 4 year run for Loyola, he was 194-206 (.485) as a head coach at Arkansas Little Rock, Illinois St., and now Loyola. I guess we should give him the credit for developing the players that led to such an impressive record.

Recruiting better players helps, and having good player development. At the end of the day, the head coach is responsible for both. He has a larger sample size where both have been sub-par. Maybe something has changed in the recent 4 year run, and light has switched on for him and his coaching staff. Idk, that's up for Joe C. to determine, and I trust him to make the right call.
