William, Sam or anyone?

I have not kept up with recruiting as much this year and don't know too much about these two. Which one do you think would be a better fit for this squad and the players that we are returning? Which one do you think we have the better chance of landing?

I'd prefer Jones, just b/c he is the better scorer. Pledger, Cam, and the other guards MAY make enough progress that a scorer at pg isn't necessary, but I'm not willing to take that chance. Give me the guard that can score it.

Here's a breakdown of the top four juco point guards from a North Carolina recruiting analyst:

Sam Grooms -- "He's from the area, so I'm sure that's an advantage for UNC recruiting him. He could score more if he wanted but he has so much talent around him at his school. He's a very very intelligent player who really takes care of the ball. I think he really fits the mold well of UNC wants. His body is the type of body that he can play at that level.

Jeremy Jones -- "Jones is from Seward Community College. He averaged 21 at Simeon High School in Chicago so he's a proven scorer. He's actually a very good scorer. He sees the floor well. Mid majors and high majors are all over him. I certainly think he's one of the best guys out there."

Pierre Jackson -- "Jackson is big time. He's definitely more of a scorer. Almost like a shooting guard type of player. He's just so quick, 5-10 and about 175, so naturally there are questions about his size but he's just such an explosive leaper and just blows by people with his quickness and change of direction. He can really get up and finish."

Darius Smith -- "More of a point guard, like Grooms. 6-2 and 190. He's bigger and stronger than his teammate, Jackson. He doesn't put up gaudy numbers but I think he'd fit that mold that UNC is looking for. Especially if they're looking for that true point guard type of prospect."

Jones. Jones is a big time shooter and scorer.

PG: Jeremy Jones
SG: Steve Pledger
SF: Cameron Clark
SF: Romero Osby
PF: Andrew Fitz

If Osby is good, and Jones comes in and provides another talented guard and scoring option, OU can have a good team next year.

Based on what I've read on Jones, does OU really need a volume shooter type at the point?

I think Grooms is the better option.

OU needs a point guard who can hit a shot. Blair is a pretty awful shooter.

Fair point but I've read a couple reports of people at his games and he dominates the ball. They said his team would get down and then he would take all the shots trying to bring them back. I understand that some of that could be on poor talent around him but honestly I'd rather take my chances with Grooms. He just seems to be more of a true point guard.

Grooms! Great defender and solid scorer with true point guard skills. I like Jones too, but he really is a volume shooter.

Do we have any chance of landing one of them??

I would take Pierre Jackson any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Word is that JJ is waiting for a phone call from LK.

Gotta have faith Kruger would be able to coach him into a team player.

This.

I don't know that I'd call him a volume shooter either. To me, a volume shooter is someone that has to take a lot of shots to contribute positively to a team. I don't think he HAS to take a lot of shots, and obviously, wouldn't at OU.

Also, the thing I like less about Grooms, is that you can probably never put Grooms and Blair on the court at the same time. With Jones, you could in theory go small with Blair, Jones, Pledger, Cam/Osby, Osby/Fitz/Goff.

Why is Pledger in this starting lineup???

Blair and Pledger on the court at the same time = Losses
