Jones

The thing is, if he doesn't play and we slide in conf play, miss the tournament ... Porter is most likely gone and Nwankwo is transferring anyway. Redshirting would be good for the kid, bad for the program. It would be a big gamble and is a tough line to toe. Especially when I am sure the kid wants to go in and play right away. At the same time, it is a business decision on all sides.

However, this is the time that, if he can play, and reports from staff were that he may be a top-3 player on the roster? You play him.

Absolutely. The season is still young. If he’s really back to full speed in a week he’ll have plenty of opportunities for playing time.

The Detrick redshirt is a pretty wild decision in hindsight. However, another counterpoint would be in 2018 when we had Trae, Kristian Doolittle was ineligible (I believe) for the first semester and Lon rushed him back and threw him into the lineup in January instead of redshirting him, thinking it was a special, all-hands-on-deck kind of year. And he really struggled to find his footing (had his worst statistical year at OU by a wide margin) and we limped through conference play and lost in the first round of the tournament.

Redshirting in this day and age really doesn't make any sense unless the player has a medical issue.

It may be tough for them to find their footing and earn a rotation spot, but I agree that redshirting just doesn’t make much sense from a program standpoint these days if a player gets back to full health and is capable of helping the team. If you’re Moser, and you’re fighting for your job, would you really want to roll the dice and hold a guy out for next season, when next season isn’t guaranteed? Obviously the players will have a say in it. If one or both of them feels like they would be far from 100 percent and only likely to be back for a handful of games, I could see why they might not want to use a year of eligibility.

Agree with you Wichita. Pretty much sets out my thoughts. I haven't seen Jeff play and I find it unbelievable he could be back to full steam this year. Miracle recovery powers if so. Don't really know what to think about Jones' injury.

He is basically a 6'5/6 and longer duke miles from what I saw, except he shoots it better from the outside. If he is 100%, I can't see Moser not playing him. I only saw one scrimmage but read somewhere he was our leading scorer in the preseason scrimmages. Like you state, with Moser fighting for his job this year and then seeing how good the conference is, and then mostly knowing we won't have Fears next year, I think he plays Jones (if he agrees to play and is healthy enough).

My question would be whose minutes does he get. I like the rotation now. Something always to be said for "not fixing something if it isn't broken".

Tonight will be a good test to see where we are. Help us get ready for conference as well.

Detrick wanted to RS ... it was very much his choice ..

Idk if Moser won't leapfrog off of us to a job in the Midwest anyway if we do even as little as making the tournament imo

Given the Pavia lawsuit results, these guys may have unlimited eligibility anyway!

his is only related to his juco years not counting .. i was just coming to post about it . .

if this holds up Nwanko would have this year + 3 more to play ..

the next logical step is someone to challenge the 5 for 4 rule for NCAA D1 .. that suit for sure will come soon ..

Absolutely ridiculous. Will be hilarious when college sports all die bc all of the fans lose interest.

OU is already talking about canceling most non-revenue sports in the next 2 years.

It's only preliminary but one of the elements is "likelihood of success on the merits..". So apparently this particular dumb court is buying what they're selling. Coward

But a TI/PI, should only hold the status quo and is not a final decision.

the next logical suit will be against the ncaa 5 for 4 rule and that will break everything ..

but it also might be the thing that actually gets federal legislation .

The ncaa could head most of this off by just admitting they are employees, paying them directly, and signing them to enforceable contracts. They shouldn’t rely on the government to save them from themselves. Just my two cents.

100% but that would result in all non rev sports being crushed ..

but it is going to end up in one of the two places ..
