Josh Richardson to Tennessee

I'm not going to lose sleep on this one. Kid is athletic, but very raw, skill-wise. If OU is going to add guards, at this point, they need to be more impactful players. We have limited schollies to use next year, I think we can probably sign a better player.

Good luck to Josh. Agree he is raw. Hopefully he can refine his skills and if so can be a contributor for Tennessee. I we had offered but I understand why we didn't given our needs and limited scholarships. He seems like a good kid and hopefully he makes us all regret not offering.

Did we ever offer?

To answer your question, no.

I was told that the previous staff didn't offer due to Richardson being similar to Cameron Clark and it would have been hard for him to get minute behind him. If OU had more scholarships to give, I suspect they would have extended one.

Good for him, and not a surprise. Martin was recruiting him pretty heavily at Missouri State, it seemed.

I liked everything I saw/read about the kid when Mizzou was a potential destination.

It seems like Cuonzo Martin, even though it is late in the game for recruiting, isn't going after anyone that was out of his league at Mizzou St. That doesn't bode well for Tennessee down the road......you'd think he would be going after bigger fish.....just an observation and not really anything to do with Josh Richardson since he was offered by a couple of high majors but it seems like Martin is going after the same kids he was recruiting before.

thats ok for this year because thats who he already has relationships with, it will be interesting to see starting next year though

Raw at point guard
Not so raw at 2 and 3 spot

He needs to speed up his jump shot quite a bit to be a very effective 2 or 3. Can be a good bench player for his first few years due to his D, versitility, and athleticism; but he definitely needs to polish up his game if he is going to be a solid starter in a major conference. I think he will, but it will take a couple of years. Wish we had room for him.

Much like how Capel started here

He really didnt fill a need at OU.

They have Cameron Clark and Tyler Neal at the same position, with Calvin Newell and Steve Pledger at the other spot.

Did you not see OU play last year,..hahaha.. OU has a need at every spot.
Maybe it was more about # of ships available.

Best of luck to Josh. I really do believe that OU would have given him a chance if not for the immediate need at PG and in the post.
