Kruger is a terrible tourney coach

I believe it's one Sweet 16 in the past 20 yeas for Lon. Last record at K State was 17-15, last record at Florida was 12-16, last record at Illinois was 22-10 (same as his first year at Illinois, was 14-18 the year before his last). I think it'd be more fair to say he leaves programs needing rebuilding so far.

Ask any KSU fan if they would love to have him back and they will all tell you a resounding "YES". How many years after he and Altman left did KSU suffer thru crappy teams before hiring the guy at WVU? 15?

He took Florida to the final 4 and they were the TCU of the SEC in basketball. Illinois was in a downward trend when he took over for Henson.

Name me a young team that made runs recently. I'm not talking about Kentucky who won the NC but had 10 burger boys and a good coach. Name me a team with a bunch of young hardly recruited players who made a run.

Buddy was hardly recruited ? Cam wasn't recruited by anybody ? I'm sick of the mid major attitude with OU fans. Woodard and Hornbeak had no offers ?

Hardly recruited? lol

Woodard had a Memphis offer.
Hield had interest from bigger schools, but committed to OU pretty early. Top 100 kid though.
Cam was a top 60 kid. Don't recall the offers.
Spangler had an offer from Zaga.
Hornbeak had some solid offers (UT, Marquette).

None of that stuff is a "reason" to accept the loss tonight.

The biggest problem right now is our identity. Specifically, the lack of defense.

Hield was hardly recruited and we see why. he has holes in his game but a lot of potential.

Cam was overrated.

My point still stands, name me a young team that wasn't full of burger boys who made a run? You can't.

Illinois made the NCAA tourney 3 of Henson's last 4 years and the NIT the other year. Sure the teams weren't as good as his late '80s teams but Illinois wasn't in a bad spot

I guess that's why he left Illinois for New Mexico State right?

What do you consider "made a run"? OU fans aren't mad this team didn't make an Elite 8. Been nice to play to seed though. Been nice to not lose by doing the same old things we always do when we lose.

I'm not the one who originally used the term "made a run". In fact, he said "tons of young teams make runs". You will need to ask him what he meant.

I'm just asking for 1-2 examples but he said "tons".

Kruger has taken teams all the way to the final four. He went to the sweet 16 in 2007. So no...he's not?

How many times has OU lost in the first round though? We might hold the record (not trying to be negative, just saying!)

I heard someone on the radio a few weeks back discussing Spangler (here in KC). They speculated he probably had lost about 10-15 lbs thru the season and was pretty banged up from the big 12 conference. It sure appeared that way tonight. He's just not a 5 but he had to play there out of necessity. If we can somehow get him to the 4 spot and get some depth he will do much better in post season play.

Makes sense to me. Ryan definitely hasn't been himself in the last four games. The incredible energy he played with for the better part of the regular season is all but gone now. He is either hurt or exhausted. Personally, I believe he is so worn out he has nothing left. He's too much of a warrior for it to be anything else.

At Florida:
11-17
19-14
16-12
29-8
17-13
12-16

Not exactly setting the world on fire, one good season, first two years better than his last two years there.

Do you think a coach the magnitude of Donovan takes that job 7 years earlier? Doubtful.

National runner-up last year

took Kelvin 4 tries before finally winning as a 13 seed...than he lost 2 more times in the first round after breaking through thats 6 1st round exits for Kelvin and 2 for Lon... so 8 out of the last 15 times Oklahoma has been to the tourney
its been a 1st round exit...

Bruce Weber made the postseason every year at Illinois too and he was forced out. He even made an NC game but lost.

Not sure what your point is...that Illinois fans/administration have unreasonable expectations?
