Thoughts on Lon after one full season of coaching and one full recruiting class?

Good hire? Will he bring OU back? Too early to tell?

What do you think at this point...

He is what we thought he was.

You could tell last year that he is a good coach. I thought he got quite a bit out of a team with zero depth, and somewhat limited talent. His x's and o's might have been a little better than I expected.

He should get us back into the top 4-5 of the Big 12 soon, maybe as early as this year. I think it was probably a good hire, all things considered. We were in a rough spot, and needed a program rebuilder. That is what Lon does. Plus, he appears to be a great man. Great ambassador for the program and the state, IMO.

LK is an excellent hire. I have no doubt about the program's future with him in charge.

He's a build the program the right way coach. No quick fixes that could leave us sucking air to survive at some point, the way our former coach did. That may not be fast enough for some fans, but it suits me just fine. Maybe that's because age has taught me to be more a lot more patient than I used to be. ;)

I would say the development and recruiting of other Big 12 programs has been better than what LK has done at OU. OU is looking like a middle or back of the bus program right now.

I think I know this much about Kruger- he wouldn't have Darrell Williams practice with the team, be a member of the program and be a witness for him. Thank God we don't have Ford!!! If Williams is found guilty, that entire program will be humiliated...

Of course, they let their coaches get away with alocohol and drug abuse, but the media around here protected the Suttons and the University, even after Eddie nearly killed a woman.

I'm reserving judgement on his recruiting abilities until we get good enough to contend for better players. Right now he is the only thing we have going.

I think his first year was pretty good. I would have liked to see him keep Newell on the team. I think it would have made a difference last season.

I want to see his recruits play. I think they will be good players but I am going to take a Missouri attitude with this and say show me.

I also want to see his recruiting class this year. It is imperative that he sign a good class. OU is losing a lot next year and we have to sign some impact players.

This is so shocking from you.

Any negative opinion of Kruger right now is laughable. What do you have to go on? One year coaching Capel's junior high level talent team, along with a slim pickings late signing period, with nary any program momentum? I guess that's what's great about this country isn't it? LOL Everybody can have their own opinion.

Great teacher and coach.

I'm afraid that recruiting is going to be a problem. He'll get transfers and good high school players to be competitive every year but I see OU as 6-7 in the Big 12 at best and an NCAA bid every few years.

The league is too good to win with just good players, you need better than good players.

That's nothing against LK but signing great high school players has never been his strength.

Yea, I know. Kelvin had the same problem.

Wow. A lot of talk about LK's recruiting so far, when he hasn't even filled his second class. I'm going to guess that next season our roster will have more top 100 or top 125 kids than 75% of Kelvin's rosters. And Kelvin did just fine. LK doesn't need Blake Griffin or Willie Warren to put OU in the Dance. And honestly, 2-3 years from now, I think LK will go snag us a top 40 recruit. We'll be fine. You know how hard it must be to recruit top tier talent right now to OU? Look at our past 3-4 seasons. Not really fair to evaluate recruiting right now, but I actually think he is doing a pretty solid job.

I feel about Lon just as I did the day he was hired and that is we are very lucky to have him and he will get our program back on solid ground.

I can't wait for this next season to see how much we improve.

I agree that top recruits are not looking at OU right now and that makes the job tougher because the current talent is in the bottom half of the league.

I have great faith in LK, but it's going to be tougher to get the program competitive than a lot of people think.

I think he has us going in the right direction. He got a lotta blood from that turnip last year. They should have won a few more games but oh well. I think they will be improved this year.

I've met him an he couldn't be any nicer of a guy. Allows visitors to practice, does some great stuff in the community and is always positive. I'm pleased so far...anxious for this season to get underway.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

+1 Stevie Clark?

At your age, how much longer can you afford to be patient?

he wasn't my first choice. I wanted more of a dynamic recruiter. But I like what he's done to date so I have no problems.
