Ku game

If you are talking about the one on Manek it might have been a bad call. But if his heels were on the line it was probably by less than an inch. Way too close for anyone to see live. They replayed it on TV. I would have left that one alone either way as I felt that there was not enough direct contact but that happens all the time.

I don't even remember who our defender was, I think it might have been one of our guards and it was fairly late in the game. The one I am thinking about wasn't close, our guy had both feet almost entirely inside the arc. They showed it on the scoreboard and it was obvious, which is why the crowd and KU bench got especially mad. I generally hate charging calls -- 95% of them should be blocks if it involves a help defender, and it is especially bad to miss that call when the defender is in the restricted area. But, it was just one call that went against the Hawks for a change, so i didn't feel one bit bad about it. ;)

OU needs to make FT's and take care of the ball better..do that and they win these type of games.

They've already won plenty of close games (Florida, Dayton, Notre Dame). Free throw shooting wasn't great last night but had no impact on the outcome, but it does need to get better because it has been off the past few games. First half turnovers have been a big issue and last night it caught up with us.

I would overall agree with your comments here... especially the no call on the charge. You were in the stands, was it really as quiet during that 2nd half run, as portrayed on the TV & Radio broadcast?

And as was said, we just gotta be strong and make a bucket down the stretch... I think if we all were to know that as a team we would go down by 15 at the half, have no Muni & have a porous shooting performance from outside the arc... Everyone would have predicted a 30 point blowout loss...

So, that's whats crazy about this team, THEY JUST DON"T FOLD and Give up... This is a team I think will win quite a few Big 12 games. At half, I wasn't so sure, but they went out and stole the momentum and almost pulled off a stunner.

I was there as well....yes, we definitely took the crowd out for most of the game.

The issue with calls....it may not be the number of calls ku gets, I believe we actually had less fouls for most of the game, BUT it's the timing...

an and 1
a charge
a foul that negates a turnover...

those are the ones ku gets without a doubt.

With that said, we couldn't hit the broadside of a barn last night..(neither could ku) so we had our chance. I think we could beat them in Norman...we NEED JM to get better quickly.

They definitely missed the one on Doolittle but we also obviously had some questionable calls go our way as well. Officiating played absolutely no impact on our loss. Refs are going to miss some and even though I don't know how he missed the one on Doolittle I'm sure KU fans can pomt to a few that the refs missed in our favor as well.

I'm surprised after watching last night's game that the refs are a topic of conversation except to say what, overall, a pretty good job they did.

I'm sorry, this just isn't true. We cut the lead to 4 very late and KU got bailed out by the officials at least 3 times after that point.

I hate it when people say you can never blame the refs for a loss. I'm not totally blaming them for this loss, we missed a plethora of shots we normally knock down, but of course the officiating had an impact. How can that even be debatable?

Some quick takes after watching the game and reading the thread:

1. I try not to talk about this much because it is really being a Debbie Downer to harp on it, but one of my honest gut reaction takes from this game is how far the college game has slipped in terms of overall product. For the #23 and #5 teams in country that was not a very well played game and a lot of the guys seemed limited. Not much flow to the game at all. I’m admittedly a bigger NBA fan, but it was pretty 50/50 for me back in the day. Obviously I’m a big enough fan of OU and the college game to attend games and post on a message board so I still really enjoy it, but man if you compare that to say an OU/KU game from previous eras— no comparison. Now, I won’t talk about that moving forward because again, no one likes that guy at the party.

2. Agree with others— I didn’t even notice officiating in this game at all. I did think Doo got fouled during that late sequence but that was about the only thing that stood out. I also thought we got away with some non-called hacks on their bigs. All in all, I saw nothing from that game from the refs that I would consider impactful or consequential.

3. This is not a great KU at all. Very meh for KU standards and I think more of a 10-15 ranked team nationally. If ever there was a year for someone to break through it would be this year. I’ve thought that a few other times as well though over the years.

4. We picked a bad night to shoot poorly. But what bothered me more as the turnovers. Way too many. Sometimes shots won’t fall, but gotta take care of the ball. In fairness some of the turnovers were due to KU superior athletes stripping our guys or giving them problems, but some were just our guys being careless and/or over anxious.

5. Bummer for James. That was a spot where we could have pulled the upset and broken the streak had he played well. We won’t need him to be on to win every game, but we will need him if we want to be REALLY good teams— especially on the road. He’s got to be the game that makes the tough/big shots for us this year. More opportunities to come though.

6. I still feel really good about this team. They won’t get rattled and they won’t lose their identity as a tough and scrappy bunch. That was about the toughest game/atmosphere they will face all year, they didn’t play all that well, and they were still within striking distance at the end. We will have a hard time scoring when three’s don’t fall because we don’t have an inside scoring presence or great playmaker, but we can hang tough when shots don’t fall because we do other things well. When shots DO fall we will be tough to beat.

7. I was thinking 12-6 in B12 play; now I’m thinking maybe 11-7 is more realistic, but even if we do go 11-7, that is a really nice season and we are likely a top 3-5 seed in Dance; which would be a great accomplishment. OSU Saturday is a must. I’ll be there and looking forward to it.

I didnt see that officiating played that big a deal in this loss. We had our chances and got the shots we needed to stay in it and even win. We just didnt execute.

I was reading the interview with Bill Self after the game. He was complimentary of our guards keeping pressure on the ball past halfcourt. KU was the first team so far this season not to be immediately torched by Bieniemy's lengthy reach. I guaran-damm-tee you that was something they brought up scouting. We have some counters for them and I look forward to the rematch in Norman.

Loved reading the quotes from Self. He had high praise for the grad transfers, especially their defensive pressure. He said they disrupted them as much or more than anyone they've played, and they have played some great teams.

I don't think anyone's saying the officiating was bad throughout, but the late bad calls are much more impactful than any early missed calls. And KU always seems to benefit from the late bad calls (or non-calls, whichever they need).

Call that late foul on Doo's putback attempt, let him hit his free throws (he might have, he might not have) and I'll take my chances. And that wasn't an iffy non-call -- it was a terrible non-call (and then they turned around and whistled OU to add insult to injury).

Exactly, we battled all the way back and then at the end the refs swallowed the whistles on our end and called touch fouls at the other end. It's very frustrating.

that is what I was saying..it's all about timing. Ku gets the timing..

ku definitely scouted...they had us pegged perfect...especially odomes.
